Reviewer Comments:
The upstairs accommodations were lively and the peace and quiet we enjoyed was outstanding. It’s not a place where much cooking can be done, but we managed with what we had. Dunning Vineyards was delightful, as well. Bob is a great host and it is a two minute walk from the cottage❤️

Reviewer Comments:
We needed a last minute place to stay in North County for a week (for myself and small children). We were glad to have found something within our budget that worked for our needs. Overall our experience was good, however there were a couple things that posed a challenge. First, was finding the place. We followed the recommendation to go during daylight after reading other reviews that it was difficult to locate. We had the address in both our car and phone's gps, but both led us on a wild goose-chase. We finally found it (90 mins later) after ending up at the wrong place and talking to whomever lived there tending the vinyard. More detailed description of how to find this rental would have been majorly helpful. The other annoyance was the lack of curtains. We had two small children using the futon couchbed in the living room. The problem was the front door directly adjacent is glass and the large windows in the nearby dining area were completely uncovered. That made for a VERY early morning for all of us. The curtains in the bedroom were white and didn't block any light at all. We ended up having to use thumbtacks and blankets to darken both the main living area and bedroom. Luckily we were gone every day from after breakfast till bed time, so we just left them like that, but taking that up and down every day would have been a huge burden had we been there during the day not wanting to be in a dark space. Some basic blackout curtains would go a long way to ensuring guests who are on vacation can actually sleep in past 5:30. Besides that, the place was clean, well stocked and rather charming. The location was beautiful (albeit very hard to find initially), and tranquil. We'd stay here again if blackout curtains were installed, and would recommend to a friend were more detailed directions on how to get here provided.

What a great retreat surrounded by oaks and vineyards! The kitchen is minimal, so plan ahead for all cooking to be done on the bbq, but we made it work and had some great dinners on the deck! Along with the additional deck space and surrounding property, it was a great place to relax for a few days.

Tranquil, wine-tasting, quiet
We LOVED our stay here. Our bedroom views were of a beautiful vineyard. It was a perfect, quiet place to stay that is also close to many of the wineries as well as downtown Paso Robles.

Reviewer Comments:
What a glorious setting for a vacation rental! It was incredibly peaceful not enjoy nature and look at the vines. The home is very remote but we had no problem finding it. We were immediately greeted with a strong "wet dog" odor upon entering the unit but it dissipated after having the windows open for a day. The bed was very comfortable, plenty of pillows, towels were generously sized, shower had tons of hot water. The place was very dusty and felt like it had not been cleaned recently. I was surprised we were not invited to taste wine at Dunning Vineyards considering it was on property. Would highly recommend for folks looking for peace and quiet and not worried about fancy accommodations. Thank you!
Fantastic stay overall, great property. We left a day early because of very noisy, late night, rude downstairs neighbors. Didn't want to spend another hellish night
This unit was in a rather remote location. It's located at the end of a dirt road in a canyon. If we had known this we probably would have looked for something closer to Paso. The units sits on a winery property but we never saw anyone there. This that said the unit was well equipped.

June 2023 Stay
We and our pups had a wonderful stay for our 34th Anniversary celebration. We came to Paso Robles to pick up our wine club wine and introduce friends to our favorite wine region.
The suite at Dunning Ranch was quiet and comfortable- we had the entire property for ourselves since the other suite was vacant. It was great.

This place was incredibly difficult to find. The directions provided led us in the wrong direction near the end of the route and the GPS was unable to determine the location. The place is comfortable but note that the ceilings are very low and slanted at some places. It is not recommended for anyone over about 6'.

Reviewer Comments:
This stay, I must say, was unique. We came late, after sundown, and followed the signs to the rental the best we could. As you enter Dunning Winery the road changes from paved to dirt quite quickly. We ended up at a fork in the road with a sign that pointed up a hill. That brought us to a large house that looked nothing like the picture we had of the rental, so we turned back down the hill and tried to follow the signs again. We approached a gate with a pin pad and tried to enter our code. Nothing doing. Finally we saw a sign for the guest house. When we arrived the building did look like the picture. The door code worked. The unit was clean, and was stocked with a wine opener,a vegetable peeler a cutting board, and a toaster--- things we needed for our little wine, cheese and salad dinner. The coffee maker was suitable, but we did bring creamer. It was a comfortable bed, with firmer pillows(always a plus). The TV used Direct TV, which took us a little time to figure out.One thing you should know is that the walls are thin, so se could hear the people in the main house pretty well, as they could probably hear us.Overall, it was a lovely place to be for a couple of days, and we would certainly go back again.

My wife and I had a wonderful weekend at this property. It was very tranquil, with wonderful bird sounds in a pleasant location that gave us the feeling of our camping trips without a tent- in the sense of being outdoors and away from crowds.
The unit [suite 1] was nice. Yes the sides of rooms angled- it is a roofline after all. If you are more than 6" you will need to duck in a few places. However, this is because it is a 100 year old house and the upstairs was designed for the expectations of that era.
For anyone wanting to truly isolate themselves it is worth noting that cooking in the unit will be in a microwave, but there is a bbq outside [propane] for your interests.
The only drawback to this visit was the first night due to the downstairs neighbors. Objectively they were normal in volume, but the house transmits sounds upstairs too well. A clear quiet hour posting for after dark would be good, IF it was followed by your neighbor.
The tv doesn't pick up any stations/channels, but a DVD player and a small library of family friendly DVDs were available. Also, the WiFi allows streaming on your own devices.
If you rely on your phone for access, it might be best to download the local map of this area before driving here as cell reception was very spotty.
This is NORMAL for the location and has NOTHING to do with the property owners! It is what you have to expect for the solitude. If you want your cell to have access every foot of the drive in, stay in a big city.

Reviewer Comments:
We loved the property and location during our stay. The inside was quite charming and had everything we needed. It blended the comfort of a hotel suite with the charm of a being away from the maddening crowd in a remote area.We saw deer there as we walked our dog, as well as a skunk and various squirrels/chipmunks. I got into a conversation with a great horned owl while walking my dog there and the owl swooped up to perch 10 feet above my head. Wonderful location! As for the property we would stay there in a heartbeat again, with one advisory- the interior walls transmit sound very well. The first night our downstairs neighbor had music on and was talking- both at levels within the 'normal' range- but the sounds felt louder upstairs than in a normal hotel. This house WAS built in the 1920s, so it is understandable .Everyone wants something different. We wanted a quiet retreat to enjoy the solitude of the location. We understand not all are like us. And our neighbors WERE at objectively normal volumes. For those who want to arrive and not leave until checkout, suite one's cooking will be either in a microwave or outside on a bbq. There is no range or oven upstairs. Not an issue for us in the slightest, but it may be for someone who plans on 3 days of solitude.Oh- download offline versions of the map to your phone before leaving PasoRobles, as cell reception is spotty at best. This is also NORMAL for the type of location and has NOTHING to do with the property. Don't blame the owners for the modern world not caring about more rural areas. If you aren't willing to do this, or buy a dedicated GPS unit [not a phone's map program], it might be best to stay in resorts near large cities rather than cool spots of tranquility like this.Last point- our dog loved the walks in the area. Just be sure to bag and toss the animal's waste.
