Historic Mt Lebanon, The Governor’s Estate
Experience Kentucky history and scenic farm-living at historic Mt. Lebanon while being nestled in the middle of thoroughbred and bourbon country. You will be within 30 minute drive to Keeneland Race Track, The Kentucky Horse Park, bourbon distilleries and the University of Kentucky. You are also just minutes from the well-known Claiborne Farms (Home to Secretariat) and the historical Runnymede Farm.
The recently renovated home was built by the second governor of Kentucky, James Garrard, in 1785 and is still owned by family members. It sits on 180 acres of beautiful rolling Kentucky hills.
Be prepared to be amazed by the features of this home from the stonework to the large, deep-well picture windows, to the antique furnishings (some even being original to house).
This house has been completely renovated with modern bathrooms and kitchen while preserving the history of the original parts of the house. The four bedrooms are spacious with high ceilings and lots of natural light.
You will immediately want to unplug on the back wrap-around porch for serenity with nature or good conversations with friends.
You'll have access to the entire house and can feel free to enjoy the fresh air and walk around the 180 acres of working farmland exploring the barns and creek. You will also want to spend time at the cemetery where Governor Garrard and some of his relatives are buried.
It is 3/4mile off of the main road but just a few minutes drive to historic downtown Paris.
This house is ideal for history buffs, families wanting a farm experience, friend weekends, couples retreats or those just wanting a quiet respite.

Historical house beautifully restored. Lovingly decorated in a way to make guests feel very comfortable and at home. House sits in middle of beautiful Kentucky countryside.
What a treat that this place is available to us to rent. The property is gorgeous and so peaceful (until a freight train surprises you!). My family absolutely loved every moment and the history is fascinating. We especially admired the old books and bibles throughout the house. Anne Marie may be the most responsive host ever! I’d give more stars if I could. Highly recommend!
Mt. Lebanon was truly AMAZING ! A beautiful home set in the hills of Kentucky near Paris, KY. The house was beautifully appointed with antiques and the surrounding grounds were well cared for. The large back porch was the perfect spot for a sunrise cup of coffee and a twilight viewing of the lighting bugs (fire flies). Many Kentucky horse farms and Bourbon Distilleries are just a short drive away!! If you want to visit Kentucky and want an authentic experience, this is your place. It gives a whole new meaning to the old saying, "My old Kentucky Home"!
Beautiful Home - Rich History - Fabulous Host!
We truly enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for such a beautiful restoration and sharing the process with all the photos.
What a wonderful place to relax and get away for a weekend! This house gave you the historic feel but with all the modern conveniences of the beautifully updated bathrooms and kitchen! We will definitely come back!!
This place never seems to amaze me. We stayed at Mt. Lebanon last year and enjoyed it so much, we came back again. This home is like stepping back in time with all of the modern conveniences of today. Anne
Truly outstanding home. Every detail was thought of with comfort and hospitality in mind. Great location, comfortable beds, and the baths were exquisite. We loved reading the history. We played games at the kitchen table and had lovely meals, cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. It felt like home. We've stayed many many places worldwide, but this place is truly special.
Absolutely beautiful farm in Paris! the location was excellent close enough to town for easily access but far enough away for much needed peace and quiet. The home was beautiful. The owner offered modern decor but yet kept the historic intact ....excellently done. The home consisted of 2 bedrooms downstairs and 2 upstairs. The layout was great for a family of 8 adults. The bathrooms and kitchen have all been updated. the home was extremely clean and met the standards of this picky mother... the outside was amazing. The home was surround by 186 acres of fields with cows, turkey, deer and quietness! a true dream for someone wanting to escape for a little while. I highly recommend this home if peace and quiet is what you're looking for, the porch by the way has an old radio and rocking chairs just the right recipe for a porch nap. Great job with this home! Thank you for letting us enjoy it!
This was a great alternative to Lexington hotels for our annual Keeneland weekend. Enjoyed cocktails on the porch and the kitchen was perfect for making dinners at home. The home was beautifully renovated and perfectly equipped for a rental. We appreciated all of the details - including seasonal decor.
Historic setting for a wonderful “ Big Chill” weekend
Four couples enjoying the best of southern hospitality for the UK - NIU game. The beautifully restored historic home was immaculate and comfortable. Antique furniture and decor were beautiful. Hostess was wonderful. Thank you, Anne Marie & family for preserving such a treasure!
