"If you come during the summer know that July is considered Monsoon season so parts of the parks may be closed. Also bring a box fan, the A/C may not be able to keep up with the temperature depending on the room you book."

"The first night in the area, we had a reservation somewhere else and it just didn't work for us. We messaged Sis and she was able to get us into a room. The first room was bigger but the second, smaller one was just as nice. Air conditioning in the August heat was wonderful and ceiling fans really made a difference. We slept very well! Enjoyed watching the changing sky from sunset to star filled. I would definitely stay here again."

Big Bend Lodging at Ten Bits Ranch | Room #8 - The Courthouse

Big Bend Lodging at Ten Bits Ranch | Room #8 - The Courthouse

10/10 Excellent
"Loved the peaceful, quiet setting alongside the mountains and a small canyon! The construction of the building provided good insulation and we were able to stay cool with the mini-split AC system even in mid July. Had an issue with operating the TV, so were unable to use it, but probably better that way. Room included ample courtesy water. There was also water in the common kitchen building, as well as milk and some other basics. There were several communal refrigerators there, which was convenient, but found lots of stuff left by other guests LONG out of date. Maybe implementing a system where food items must be labeled with name/date and removed upon checkout would be a good idea. We also found some pancake mix and whipped up some impromptu breakfast and sat at the big dining table and played some games :)Wish we could have stayed longer, but we needed a place with a tub (only showers here). A little off the beaten path (long dirt road to access the property), but we liked that."

"Quiet. Peaceful. Wonderful open spaces and so many stars! Communication with host was great, check-in was easy. Main cantina has shared refrigerators and space to put your groceries as well as a small fridge and microwave in the room. Bring water as the tap is non-potable. Off grid living at its finest!!! Will be back!"

Jackass Flats Greasewood Grocery Cabin

Jackass Flats Greasewood Grocery Cabin

10/10 Excellent
"We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Greasewood Grocery. The cabin is right off the main road headed to Terlingua. It’s is a rain water only non-potable water source, which was not a problem for us. We brought our own water for drinking. The shower has an instant-hot water heater., which worked great. The AC kept us cold. It does have WiFi, but we did not test it during our stay. The host is very friendly and check-in process was simple. Great place to use as a base camp while exploring the Big Bend area. 👍 PS. We did have several people stop by thinking it really was a small grocery store. 😂"
