"Charming hotel tucked on quiet street with well-intentioned courteous staff. 10-minute walk from the train station. Breakfast was adequate, though certainly unremarkable.. Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Old Town Chur?
The best area to stay in Old Town Chur is within the historic centre itself, particularly around the areas of Postplatz and the Obere Gasse.

This area is the heart of Chur, offering a delightful mix of narrow cobblestone streets, mediaeval buildings, and charming squares. It's largely pedestrianised, making it very pleasant for walking and exploring the local shops, cafes, and restaurants. The Postplatz is a central hub, and the Obere Gasse is one of the oldest and most picturesque streets, leading up towards the cathedral.

Couples will find the historic centre particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. Strolling hand-in-hand through the ancient alleys, discovering hidden courtyards, and enjoying a meal at one of the many traditional Swiss restaurants creates a memorable experience. The proximity to the Chur Cathedral and the Bündner Art Museum also offers cultural highlights.

For solo travellers, staying in the Old Town provides convenience and a sense of being part of the local life. Everything is within easy reach, from the train station for day trips to the numerous eateries where you can enjoy a quiet meal or a coffee.
When is the best time to go to Old Town Chur?
The best time to go to Old Town Chur is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October), or in winter (December-March) for snow activities.

During spring and autumn, the weather is mild, making it ideal for exploring the historic streets and enjoying outdoor cafes without the peak summer crowds. You'll find pleasant temperatures for walking around and taking in the sights. This is superb for those who appreciate comfortable exploration and fewer queues.

Winter offers a completely different experience, especially for those interested in snow sports and a festive atmosphere. Chur is a gateway to several ski resorts, making it a convenient base for day trips to the mountains. The Old Town itself often has a charming, festive feel with Christmas markets in December.
