Lule bore

Lule bore

10/10 Excellent
"First off you need to be an adventurous traveler. You must have an SUV or 4x4 or you will never get there. You will find yourself in a remote area in the beautiful Alps of Albania. The visual experience is spectacular. This is a great experience that only a few will appreciate. Once you finally arrive the family is extremely gracias and they make sure you are well fed...breakfast, lunch and dinner! This is included. If you like to hike or just sit outside and enjoy the magnificent beauty of the Albanian Alps you will have an amazing experience and a great memory. Please do not expect anything fancy! This family is humble and gives their guests everything they have. Everything they offer you to eat is produced by their own hands. If you truly want to get back to basics and to experience living off the land this one's for you! I will always treasure the hospitality we received from our gracias hosts."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Okol?
The best area to stay in Okol is the central village area, particularly around the main square and the road leading towards the Valbona Valley National Park.

This area is the heart of Okol, offering convenient access to local amenities and a feel for the local way of life. You'll find most guesthouses and small hotels clustered here, often featuring traditional architecture and views of the surrounding mountains. The main road serves as the primary artery, connecting you to hiking trails and other points of interest.

For couples looking for a peaceful escape and access to nature, staying in the central village is ideal. Many guesthouses offer locally sourced meals, and you're just a short walk from trailheads leading into the stunning Valbona Valley. It's a great base for exploring the natural beauty of the Albanian Alps.

Solo travellers will also find this area convenient.
When is the best time to go to Okol?
The best time to visit Okol, Shkodër County, Albania, is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October).

These months offer pleasant weather conditions, with comfortable temperatures that are ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the natural beauty of the region. You'll avoid the intense heat of mid-summer and the colder, potentially wetter days of winter.

For those planning to spend time by Lake Shkodra or enjoy water-based activities, late spring and early autumn provide a good balance of warmth without the peak tourist crowds.
