"One of the best family and regional small hotel we have visited in 20 years in Crete. They really are very small hotel, familial style but they do their best to provide high level services: multiple pool, breakfast, sun towels. Amazing quality for price. I rarely write reviews but their work needs to be recognized. The only con of this hotel, despite what is written on Hotels.com, it's very remote in the moutain and far from Paleochora, so I recommend if you need to rest 2-3 days in a super...

Our room was a wonderful cottage, full of character and very comfortable. The staff were exceptionally kind, welcoming, and always ready to help. The restaurant was another highlight, serving truly outstanding dishes. A wonderful experience overall."

Domes Noruz Chania, Autograph Collection - Adults Only

10/10 Excellent

"Wonderful staff that are always welcoming. This place excelled in every aspect. Their service and attention to detail is second to none!"

Myrion Beach Resort & Spa - Adults Only

10/10 Excellent

"Really enjoyed my stay. The room was lovely and I made use of the indoor gym which was small but well kitted out. The breakfast selection was good including dairy free options. I also had buffet dinner in the main dining room which was good but as I don’t eat meat, I think it lacked options with veg or fish."

Iolida Beach by Smile Hotels

8/10 Good

"Our room was clean and spacious with a great view to the water. Our room was cleaned every day and there was plenty of parking available. Not sure what it looks like during the busy season though. The pool was nice but the water was cold. The pool is definitely not heated! Staff was friendly. We booked all inclusive. The food was ok but not exceptional. The drink options were also limited and the knock off Coke or Pepsi products did not taste good at all. But all in all we had a good time and a nice stay!"

Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel – Adults only

10/10 Excellent

"This was our second visit to Atlantica Amalthia. Very nice hotel. Everywhere was very clean, our room was a good size (we had a room in the building on the beach side) with nice balcony. Nice bar and restaurant. Breakfast room was nice and good choice of food. Very well kept beach. All of the staff were first class. So friendly, polite and extremely helpful. Visited the spa and had two massages during my stay and both were very nice and relaxing. Definitely recommend. Reasonable price. Didn't use the pool as it got busy very quickly. Sunbeds were very close together and not positioned well that you could get the sun all day. Whilst I enjoy swimming in a pool, we chose to stay on the beach each day. Good location with plenty of restaurants nearby. Recommend Sebastien next door. Absolute gem of a hotel and would definitely recommend it."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Moni?

The best area to stay in Moni is the area around Moni Arkadiou, especially for those seeking a tranquil and culturally rich experience.

This area is centred around the historic Moni Arkadiou monastery, a significant landmark in Crete. The landscape here is characterised by rolling hills, olive groves, and traditional Cretan villages. It's a peaceful setting, far removed from bustling tourist resorts, offering a genuine taste of rural Crete.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find Moni Arkadiou and its surroundings ideal. The quiet environment is superb for relaxation, and the monastery itself offers a profound historical and architectural experience. You can enjoy scenic walks through the countryside, explore nearby traditional tavernas, and savour the local cuisine in a calm setting.

For solo travellers interested in history, culture, and nature, staying near Moni Arkadiou provides an excellent base. The monastery offers a deep dive into Cretan heritage, and the surrounding trails are superb for hiking and exploring at your own pace.

When is the best time to go to Moni?

The best time to go to Moni, Crete, Greece for pleasant weather and fewer crowds is during the shoulder seasons, specifically May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer a comfortable balance. The weather is warm enough for swimming and sunbathing, with average temperatures ranging from the low 20s to high 20s Celsius, but without the intense heat and humidity of mid-summer. You'll find the popular beaches, like those near Plakias or Preveli, less crowded, allowing for a more relaxed experience.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking or exploring historical sites like the Moni Preveli Monastery or the Kourtaliotiko Gorge, the milder temperatures of the shoulder seasons are ideal. You can comfortably enjoy longer walks and excursions without the midday sun being too strong.
