"A wonderful hotel. Very premium and modern aesthetic. Hotel has minimal amenities like soap and hotel slippers and hair dryer only so you need to bring your own shampoo or toothbrush. Breakfast buffet is great. Will stay there again if we hit the area. Location is great , near the tourist boat tour. But there’s nothing much to do other than biking , and walking around a small riverside/nature area. The neighboring Lehde town is cute but super tiny. Can’t imagine being here more than 2 nights."

"Had a one night stay as we were driving through the area. Cons: No AC in the room, and it was WARM. Old and rock hard beds. Rooms were very loud, and i could hear my neightbour snoring just as well as i heard the traffic from the autobahn. Breakfast was ok. Not too much to choose from, but for the price of the stay i guess it was ok. Pros: Easy and accessible parking. Friendly staff. Very close to the Autobahn, easy choice when you are just travelling through the area."

Best Western Plus Parkhotel & Spa Cottbus

10/10 Excellent

"Lovely hotel, only a short drive to Cottbus, very high spec, although the restaurant was closed in the evening"

Tropical Islands Resort

10/10 Excellent

"Overall a really fantastic stay and can’t wait to return. When we arrived it was very difficult to establish where to check in as multiple check-in locations were closed. Eventually when we did check in, they will never check you in early - they even suggest you park your car at the lodge, which is strange as you can see your lodge available and ready to use but the key doesn’t work till 3pm. Then when it was 3pm we walked back to the lodge only from the hangar to find the key didn’t work so had to walk back to the desk (15 minute walk each way) whilst my wife had to feed our crying baby on the steps of the lodge. Other than that, it’s such a cool place and our lodge was lovely. The restaurant in the tiki bar, was absolutely fantastic and was way above our expectations. The wristband system for paying for everything is dangerously easy! As mentioned, we travelled with a baby and aside from the check-in process, it really was perfect as the water is a lovely temperature and no danger of being cold out of the water in tropical climate of the hangar. We had Amazonian lodge with a sauna and it was brilliant. As stated before it’s a 10-15 minute walk which is fine (as long as your key works..!)"

Sorat Hotel Cottbus

10/10 Excellent

"Right in the heart of the old section of Cottbus. Perfect location. Staff was helpful and breakfast was excellent. Self service laundry worked out well, and everything functioned as expected. Our room was on Floor 3 (the Fourth Floor in Europe) and the roof of part of the hotel was below our window. They could have just had us view the vents, but the entire roof below our window was sodded and planted with wildflowers. Nice touch."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Märkische Heide?

The best area to stay in Märkische Heide is generally within the main village of Märkische Heide itself, particularly around the central square and main roads like Dorfstrasse.

This area serves as the heart of the community, providing easy access to local amenities and a central base for exploring the surrounding Brandenburg region. You'll find a selection of guesthouses, local shops, and traditional eateries. The general layout is quite spread out, typical of a rural German village, with properties often featuring gardens.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate the quiet surroundings and the opportunity for relaxed walks or bike rides directly from their accommodation. The proximity to nature, including nearby lakes and woodlands, makes it ideal for those wanting to disconnect and enjoy the countryside.

Families will also find this area suitable due to the availability of larger guesthouses or holiday homes, often with outdoor space.

When is the best time to go to Märkische Heide?

The best time to go to Märkische Heide is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the natural beauty of the Brandenburg region is at its peak.

During late spring, the landscape bursts into colour with blooming wildflowers and lush greenery, making it ideal for outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, and exploring the numerous lakes and forests. The temperatures are mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 22°C, which is comfortable for extended periods outdoors without the intensity of summer heat. This period is particularly good for families looking to enjoy nature and outdoor adventures before the main summer crowds arrive.

Early autumn offers a different kind of beauty, with the forests transforming into a spectacular display of reds, oranges, and golds. The weather remains agreeable, with temperatures usually between 10°C and 18°C, superb for long walks or boat trips on the Spreewald canals.
