The best time to visit Mahajanga is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant, sunny weather with lower humidity and very little rain, making it ideal for exploring the city and enjoying the beaches. Temperatures are consistently warm but not excessively hot, typically ranging from 25°C to 30°C. This period is superb for travellers who want to make the most of outdoor activities without the interruption of heavy downpours.

Couples looking for a relaxing escape will find this time particularly appealing. The calmer seas are excellent for boat trips to nearby islands or for simply lounging on the sandy shores of Grand Pavois or Petite Plage. The dry, clear evenings are also lovely for dining al fresco along the seafront boulevard, known as the Corniche.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the dry season. The stable weather allows for uninterrupted days at the beach, exploring the Baobab Alley, or visiting the Cirque Rouge.

Mahajanga offers a few distinct areas for evening entertainment.

The waterfront area, particularly along the Boulevard du Bord de Mer, is where you'll find a concentration of open-air bars and restaurants. These establishments often have live music, particularly local Malagasy genres, and stay open late. It's a relaxed setting, popular with both residents and visitors.

For a different experience, the area around the Great Baobab, further inland from the main waterfront but still within the city centre, has a few smaller, more intimate bars and pubs.
