Flat not conducive for sleep / Host does not operate in good faith

For us, we found this flat not conducive for sleep and fled to a hotel after our first night (of what was supposed to be a 4 night stay). We could not sleep for 4 reasons: • Heat: in the summer, when we arrived at the flat around 8pm, the temperature in the flat was well over 85 degrees (even with the windows open). The configuration of the windows allows for no cross breeze and the temps never cooled down to a comfortable level. In the morning (as the windows are eastern facing), the flat baked in the sun anew and temps rose even higher again. • Noise: the neighbors upstairs stomped heavily til 3am, and started up again at 8am. The thuds easily resounded through the thin ceilings. It was impossible to sleep through that noise. Furthermore, open windows allowed all the street noise to flood the flat. • Mattress: for us, the mattress was too firm. Our hips were in pain after just an hour in bed. • Unsettling: not having screens in the windows was a safety concern, as was the random person that kept ringing our doorbell from the street at 8am and beyond. From the outset, the host communicated to us that there was A/C in the flat (we have proof of that in our VRBO portal) and then refused to let us out of our rental, even though they misrepresented this amenity. They refused to refund us any portion of our fee, even though we vacated the flat after only 1 night’s stay. This host does not operate in good faith. And we found the flat to be inhospitable (just like the hosts).
