Our unit is a privately owned hotel room located in the Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort and Spa. Beautiful first floor unit with King bed and lovely views of the resort pools and ocean beyond. Leave your room and a short distance later your on the beach. The Outrigger Kauai Beach Resort and Spa is a beautiful Hawaiian resort located on 25 acres of lush Garden Isle, centrally located between Kauai’s south and north shores, making it perfect for your island adventures. Only minutes from the airport, Costco, Walmart and Shopping. You will go thru a tree canopy lined drive that leads to the resort. Several acres of beach front property to enjoy and explore. On property there are four swimming pools, complete with water falls, a poolside cabana bar and grill, two jacuzzies, fitness center and day spa. Paradise will be your back yard! However, the Hawaiian Cultural classes, which include classes like Hula and Lei Making are not included as part of your stay. \----------------------------------------------------------------- FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS IS THIS CONDO OR A HOTEL ROOM? Both. The resort was previously a Hilton hotel, the units are just like hotel rooms. However, they are privately owned “condotels”. The resort operates much like a hotel, and most guests are not aware that the units are privately owned. Most of the units are offered to the public through the resort or through travel sites at much higher retail prices. Although, a few are offered on VRBO at owner rates with access to the resort’s amenities. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RENTING ON VRBO vs. THE RESORT The $$$ price and also maid service. Renting direct through VRBO saves you a lot of money. However, daily maid service is not included. The cleaning fee you pay when booking takes care of cleaning and restocking the unit after your stay. DOES THE UNIT HAVE A KITCHEN? No. They do not have kitchens they were previously hotel rooms. ARE WE ABLE TO COOK IN THE UNIT? No. Local fire ordinances do not allow cooking in any of the rooms. The resort has a microwave in the lounge area on the 5th floor of Building 2 that can be used by all guests. WHAT IS THE RESORT’S BEACH LIKE? The resort is located on a 3-mile stretch of beautiful beach, amazing for long walks. The beach is very scenic but, is not considered a swimmable beach as it has a decent amount of coral. The surf is also unpredictable. It's best is to go to some of Kauai's many famous beaches for swimming. Lydgate Beach park is a nearby beach that is good for swimming. SHOULD I GET A CAR? We recommend that you have a rental car. The resort has most everything you need to have a wonderful time and relax. A car will allow you to experience many popular attractions, buying groceries, and going to many amazing restaurants etc. If you want a car for a day or two there is an on-site Hertz car rental agency. The rates are higher but it is an option for a short rental. IS THERE FREE SHUTTLE SERVICE FROM THE AIRPORT? No. The shuttle service from the airport is not available to our guests. The resort does offer free shuttle service to/from the airport for guests who book through the resort. Kauai Beach Resort is close the airport which make taxi prices more reasonable. Uber also operates on the island! ARE THERE BEACH TOWELS TO TAKE TO THE BEACH? Your stay includes 4 pool/beach towels. DOES THE RESORT CHARGE A RESORT FEE? Private owner guests are not required to pay the $35 daily resort fee. DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR A DAILY PARKING FEE? Yes, if you have a car the resort charges $40/day for parking. This resort is beautiful. The room is close to the beach, Drift Bar, and pools. The resort automatically charges an 18% gratuity for everything you order. We rented a car from a local since Uber and taxis are not reliable on the island. There is a $34 charge per day though to park here. The staff is amazing. The room could use some updates. You’ll be greeted with friendly staff and find your room to be a great place to crash after a long day visiting all the stunning locations around Kauai. If you’re looking for a resort that offers a ton of amenities and plan on rarely leaving your room and sticking around the pools and bars at the resort, plan to bring some money for drinks and food. Prices are a little steep. Rooms could use some updating (I believe they are remodeling at the time of this review). We still had access to all resort amenities and could charge things to our room reservation, which was nice. It was quiet and comfortable. The shades over the patio door provided sufficient darkness for sleeping in.h commentary to the property owner is: this room could use an instruction booklet - we couldn’t get the safe to work, couldn’t get the TV to work, there was a dehumidifier with no instructions, the closet had chairs and a cooler and snorkel gear but we aren’t sure what for and didn’t see reason to use them. The room was generally clean, though the extra blanket had clearly not been washed in awhile - it was covered in long hairs. There was no fan in the bathroom so everything stayed kind of moist. Also the bathroom door is basically a closet door so there was very little privacy for bathroom use. ##### Jacquelyn L. I mistakenly (thought for sure the pictures showed) assumed we chose a room with a kitchenette but, upon arrival, learned otherwise. Having a toddler, cooking in the room would have been nice. The hotel visitors get different privileges that the VRBO guests do not. Pool towels at the pool, one serving of coffee for entire stay, no clean towels without extra charge… disappointing. The restaurants and beach area were great- we traveled to other parts of the island and appreciated how quiet this location was. Unfortunately the room itself was not very clean and there was a smell coming from the closet area that we couldn’t figure out. Communication with the manager was good in the beginning but then we stopped hearing from them. Someone came into our room to remove the pack and play that we thought the smell was coming from- which was fine, but we were not told anyone would be stopping by and coming while we were out of the room. There were several noticeable things in the room that showed it was not cleaned well. We feel this is more a reflection of the resort and less on the vrbo folks since we assume resort housekeeping cleans the room; but we were disappointed in the lack of communication after the first day. ##### Tanisha A. While the restaurants are nice they are extremely pricey, they do not meet the same level of the property overall. The landscaping is well manicured, almost to a fault, with daily trimming and blowing (noise). That is a minor inconvenience. The sand pool has visible exposed underlay, it could use another covering of sand. The amenities in the room are very minimal and a bit disappointing. Unfinished paint in the room. The towels used for both the room and pool are very dated and worn. The sliding door shutters could use some lubricant, as they squeak terribly. Mind you, these are very nit picky. But the resort is BEAUTIFUL, the location is wonderful, the pools and property well kept, and the staff very friendly. Had zero complaints about the room, the microwave is a little tricky to get to but we were dining out so that wasn’t a huge issue. The beach is very close, but it’s not the greatest beach so don’t plan on laying out there for hours. Thankfully there are many other much nicer public beaches within a 5-10 mile drive. We had a wonderful time and the room is close enough to hear and view the ocean. The resort has great amenities available. The mini fridge was a great size for all needs for the size of the room. We wish there was a microwave in the room but there is a public one at the resort. Also we wish there were supplied coffee filters / ground coffee (they supply one for your first pot) for the room, but the resort has a Starbucks so it made up for it.
