The best area to stay in Les Masies Catalanes is within the main cluster of Masies, particularly close to the village of Sant Joan de les Abadesses, for convenience and access to local amenities.

This region is characterised by scattered 'masies' – traditional Catalan farmhouses, often converted into holiday rentals or boutique accommodations. Staying near Sant Joan de les Abadesses, a historic village with a well-preserved Romanesque monastery, provides easy access to local shops, restaurants, and a pleasant town square. The area is rural, with rolling hills, meadows, and forests, making it ideal for those seeking a peaceful break.

Families will find staying in a converted masia in this area particularly appealing. These properties often come with ample outdoor space, private pools, and multiple bedrooms, offering plenty of room for children to play. The proximity to Sant Joan de les Abadesses means you're never far from essentials, and there are gentle walking and cycling paths suitable for all ages.

For couples looking for a relaxing escape, choosing a masia slightly outside the immediate village centre offers more seclusion. Many of these properties feature beautiful gardens, private terraces, and stunning views of the surrounding countryside, great for quiet evenings.

The best time to go to Les Masies Catalanes is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

These periods offer the most pleasant weather, with warm days and comfortable evenings, great for enjoying the region's outdoor activities and natural beauty. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season, allowing for a more relaxed and authentic experience. Many local festivals and culinary events also take place during these seasons, providing a deeper insight into Catalan culture.

For those looking to enjoy the region's hiking and cycling trails, spring and autumn provide ideal conditions. The landscapes are lush and green in spring, with wildflowers in bloom, while autumn brings a beautiful array of colours to the vineyards and forests. Exploring the Montsant Natural Park or the Serra de Llaberia is particularly enjoyable during these months.

Summer (July and August) is also an option, especially if you plan to combine your trip with visits to the nearby beaches of the Costa Daurada, which are about an hour's drive away. However, be prepared for hotter temperatures and more visitors, particularly at popular attractions.
