Ok.
The room was pretty small and the elevator can handle only 2 people, not very convenient. Breakfast was ok. The view from our room was pretty. The people attending the place were nice.

To get there you have to drive up some seriously steep narrow winding roads, only to find out that there are charges for their parking spot and breakfast which are not worth the cost.

Lovely setting with a gorgeous view of Lake Como.
Charming and lovely, this hotel has a picturesque setting that will make it feel like home. Lovely owners who helped us with a problem and were so accommodating. We loved our stay here. The restaurant was lovely and the food amazing! Both the owner and staff were friendly and so professional, working hard to be of service. Amazing stay at Alberto Vista Lago!

Well located in Brunate
The hotel is well located overlooking Como City and we had a glimpse of Lake Como from our Balcony. I got the feeling that the albergo was just wakening from it’s winter slumber as there were few signs of activity in the restaurant or bar and certainly no locals around. However the hotel and Brunate thanks to the very handy funicular makes an excellent base for discovering the Lake Como area.

Seven day stay in Albergo Vista Largo
The road to Brunate is very steep with extremely tight bends. You can get to the hotel by Train and Funicular if you want Our room (22) although very clean was very cramped and not suitable for a seven night stay. Opening the wardrobe doors was impossible along with draws. There was no place to sit around a table to drink or read. No drink making facilities in the room. This was very bad due to breakfast service starting at 8am. A very modern large TV but no English speaking station at all. Only Italian terrestrial TV. This is very poor in comparison to almost any hotel in Italy. There was only a shower in the bathroom which was also tiny. Very basic soap and body wash. We travel to italy a lot and this room is very poor in comparison to the many we have stayed in Breakfast was very limited either tea, orange juice and a croissant for €5. Or an omelette can be served in addition for €10 per person. The breakfast room or dinning room was clean and not pleasant to eat in. It seems to cater for customers coming up on the funicular railway for a snack. You would not eat your evening meal in the hotel It's a clean hotel with pleasant staff but not in any way homely or inviting to the guest BE WARNED THE HOTEL SOMETIMES CLOSES VERY EARLY AND YOU ARE GIVEN A KEY TO ACCESS VIA A SIDE ENTRANCE. THE LOCK IS A BIT FIDDLELY IN THE LATE EVENING. There are no staff on site during the night and we were given the catering mangers phone number in an emergency.

Great hotel at superb location
The hotel is located at a beautiful location at the mountains town of Brunate. The Sorroundings are beautiful and the views are from up there are wonderful. We used a fernicular to travel between the hotel and the city centre and the views of the city going up and down the fernicular are breathtaking. The hotel is small and has that homely atmosphere which is very nice. The staff are very friendly and attentive, especially the owner Ralph. We would get to the hotel from excursions very late in the evening at least past 9pm and very hungry and the owner was always happy to prepare food for us so we don't go to bed hungry. I was there for my birthday and I was given a free bottle of champagne to celebrate it by the owner. The owner also arranged for a taxi transfer for us as we were flying back to England very early in the morning from Milan and we got picked up at 4am by taxi. 2 minutes via a cable train and you are in the city centre where there is all the tourist sights, the harbour, and a number of beaches. The hotel has a lovely Rooftop restaurant with a beautiful views of the city of Como. I really recommend staying here for a super experience of travelling around Como.

Quiet & Clean Hotel
We stayed here as an alternative to the overpriced hotels in near Lake Como. The hotels location is great in terms of being right up the street from the funicular. The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The room does not have air conditioning but a staff member was nice enough and accommodated us with a fan. The wifi isn't great, doesn't work well at night but is great during the morning. The little town of Brunate is beautiful but you can see most of it in two hours. All together it was a nice stay.

Out of the Way Location
We stayed at this hotel during early July. Getting to this hotel is somewhat of an adventurous drive through some narrow, steep, and twisty road. The hotel is OK and has some great views, but could use some modernizing. Food in the restaurant was also OK, but not great. Parking is very limited and difficult to come by. The cable car ride down to Como is a cool experience.

Considerations before booking
There was no air-conditioning nor fan so keeping balcony doors open is the only relief to summer heat. However, you will notice that there is no net/screen to keep bugs out. Also, there is a Church with a loud bell ringing evety hour for each hour (I.e. 6 times at 6pm). For check ins after 2pm the restaurant manager doubles as the hotel manager, which since there is no formal check-in desk means you just wait at the coffee bar until someone arrives to help you.

Lovely B&B!
This place was simply wonderful! We arrived in the mid afternoon and checked in with no problem. The room was very clean and had a lovely view. We ate at the restaurant downstairs and were very pleased! The same gentleman that checked us in prepared our meal in the kitchen. I had the lasagna and it was delicious! It was very quiet with very few other guests. I wish we had stayed more than one night! They even let us leave our bags in the room and "check out" later!

Spectacular view, exciting drive
The hotel is located in Como suburbia on a mountain overlooking the city of Como and the lake with the surprisingly spectacular view from a balcony of every room (we even stayed extra day because of it). If you are a confident driver, you will share my excitement from the 5-km road from Como to the hotel, and finding a parking spot will be quite an entertaining challenge, since most of the empty spaces that don't block the streets are reserved for the registered residents only. For the reluctant commuter-type drivers I recommend the funicular line that runs from Como center to within 1-minute walk from a hotel (5.50 euros round-trip, operates till midnight in summer). Hotel personnel are inviting and helpful, but they speak only a few words in English. Breakfast is minimal, but it matches the hotel price range. The area is extremely quite at night (some might even say too quite) except for the neighboring church bells in the morning. The town of Como looks much better from the hotel balcony, than it does from the city center. Nice base to make half-day car trips along the shores of lake Como.

Best place to stay while in Como. 25euro taxi fare from train station, which is a set price. Hotel provides gorgeous overview of the lake and mountains. Location is quite convenient, hotel is about 100m from the top of funicular (~8min ride, EUR5.50 return ticket) which starts at about 300m from the train station (Como Nord Lago). The breakfast was fine. Staff was friendly. Rooms are quite small and unfortunately not very clean (as well as towels) which was a major disappointment. Also note that the reception is closed before 2pm.

Location, views & value great, minor compromises.
Location of Brunate, 800m above Como, provides great views and minimizes tourist zoo. Few, but very good options for dining and shopping. Vista Lago is next to church with bell tower if that matters. Mattresses could be firmer and in-room fridge barely cools. Breakfast buffet adequate, staff very helpful. Good value, would return.

great location but a little rough
location was very close to the top of the Funicolare, which is convenient. also close to the church, which is OK as long as you don't have your window open when the bells are ringing in a service (deafening!). The hotel food service was closed except for the complimentary breakfast, which was not the best but certainly adequate for us. Our "double bed" was two minimal and soft single beds, one of which collapsed when the duct-taped broken slats gave way. Otherwise clean and with good bathroom facilities, and most rooms have a great view of lake Como. In my opinion the place was understaffed and the staff minimally qualified, though cheerful, friendly and trying to be helpful. That said, there are few options to stay in Brunate, which is a really unique and charming little community, and definitely worth a night over if you don't mind roughing it just a little!

Hotel was overlooking Lake Como and the views were stunning and that's all it had going for it.. The restaurant and bar were closed. There was no television, the safe didn't work, the fridge didn't work and the towel rail didn't work. Fridge was replaced but was still not cold enough to stop milk going off. Breakfast was just okay. Staff spoke very little English and very disinterested. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Exceptional stay but.........
We enjoyed our stay there tremendously. The room was clean, the view fantastic and breakfast adequate but not abundant. We were however disappointed by the service and maintenance of the hotel because the overhead light in the room was broken when we arrived and we agreed to remain in the room until the next morning when we were promised that the bulb would be replaced. However, the following night, the bulb was still not replaced and again we were promised that the bulb would be replaced the following day. Yet again we were promised that someone would come and fix the light but unfortunately the light was never fixed and our room was in perpetual darkness. We were offered an alternate room, however, we chose not to take this option because: 1. Our friends were next door on the same floor and 2. we were offered a room without a view when the one we had (although dark) had an exceptional view.

Dissapointing
The hotel was quite expensive but the service was terrible and the room was primitive and uncomfortable with only one rickety chair (though quite clean). On arrival we discovered that the restaurant was closed and when we asked about alternatives, all we could get is that there were others around--we couldn't get them to say where or even the names of some they might recommend. (We diud find a restaurant nearby, the Bella Vista, that was good but we found it on our own, without any help from Vista Lago.) We had a car and parking was difficult (though we were lucky to find a place nearby). In the evening, however, apparently one can park in the courtyard in front of the nearby church. The breakfast was terrible, making us glad, in retrospect, that the restaurant had been closed. The road to Brunate is narrow and twisting and because of the lack of parking, we didn't venture out by car after our arrival. The view was nice, but from our room it was partially blocked by another building. (The view we did have was of the Villa d'Este directly aross the lake.)

We stayed in a room on the top floor which has outstanding views of lake Como and the surrounding area. For this reason only would i recommend the hotel. The room itself was adequate, breakfast a bit minimal on choice but equally adequate. Unfortunately the staff were rude and dismissive which made us feel a bit uncomfortable at times. Lovely location in Brunate and spectacular views saved the place!! Book it only if you can get a lake view room.

Not our Favorite Hotel in Italy
While the room was spacious, modern and clean we didn't find the staff to be very friendly, professional, or accommodating. They were not comfortable with English-speaking patrons so did not try to be helpful. One night's stay might be okay but more than that is inconvenient because you have to pay for the funicular to haul you up and down the hill (~6 minutes each way). Once there, you walk about 3 blocks uphill to the hotel. There are no restaurants in the area as The Hotel Vista Lago is located in a residential neighborhood. Had we known this ahead of time, we would have stayed in Lake Como.

Ride the Feniculare up the hill from Como
The hotel is nested into the hillside like most of the buildings in this area. The balcony rooms have a nice veiw of lake Como. Church bells provide a 7AM wake up call with a 1 hour snooze button... The hotel is nice clean and efficient. Everything was clean and well maintained. Its a nice place to stay and do some hiking or cycling in the hills nearby, and the Feniculare provides quick transit to Como below. There is no wifi at this place or any place nearby. Cellular data does work but at slow speeds. Best way to get there is train to Como Nord and short walk to the Feniculare. The hotel is quite close to the Feniculare at the top.

Room with a view
We primarily booked this hotel because of other reviews mentioning the excellent views of Lake Como and the city of Como from the balcony. The view is excellent - especially the sunsets. Make sure you book the top floor on the west side though as the view on lower floors are blocked by a building. This means only 3 or 4 rooms in the hotel have the great view. The hotel is only about a one minute walk from the Finicular. The hotel is very clean throughout and the staff is friendly enough. The included breakfast was fairly standard Italian fare, no major surprises or disappointments. The room was quite modern with a large bed (maybe too large as it took up quite a bit of space that could have maybe been used better for something else). The negatives of the rooms were none of the room safes worked, there is no air conditioning/fans and the TV channels were limited to a few SKY cable channels. The town of Brunate is very quiet and we didn't have any problem sleeping in spite of having our balcony doors wide open all night to try and cool the room off. There are about 6 restaurants to choose from within a 5 minute walk from hotel. We did not have supper at our hotel and only saw one couple in the dining room during our 3 night stay. We had to leave early (7:00 am) the last morning but no staff were up yet and all the doors locked. So to leave, we had to jump out an open window with our luggage and onto the street! Probably looked more than a little suspicious to the locals.

Great view
Initially we were given a room on 2nd floor with poor view of lake como, it could just be seen through trees. This room had twin beds, I had ordered a double room. The Chef who was also on reception was helpful despite us speaking little Italian and him no English. I spoke on phone to a lady who spoke English she stated they only received the booking the day before, my documentation showed I had booked a month earlier. We were given another room on 3rd floor with balcony and great views. Breakfast was OK but cost 7.5 euros each. A clean tidy hotel convenient to venicular to Como.

Spectacular View of Lake Como
Hotel Vista Lago overlooks Lake Como from the small village of Brunate some 700m above the lake. The view from our 3rd floor room was nothing short of stunning! We chose to stay in Brunate rather than down in Como for the view and for a less crowded experience. Overall, we were quite pleased with our stay, especially with the superb personal service that we received. Thanks Silva! Also, the dinner prepared by the owner himself was great! We didn't order anything. He just prepared a meal and we enjoyed it! Really good! Now a few words of caution: First, the drive up the "hill" to Brunate is a challenge, regardless of your skill level. We made it up and down just fine, but, it was pretty interesting, especially when having to navigate around oncoming buses! We decided to use the Funiculare (very convenient) for our trips up and down the hill other than when we left. Next, you have to realize that this is a very small hotel with only a handful of rooms. Also, our room was very clean and newly renovated, but, very small by American standards. This was no problem at all, but, worth noting if you are not used to smaller European rooms. Finally, there really is no parking at the hotel. At the owner's instructions, I parked at the Funiculare and was given a remote for the gate for that parking lot. Despite this, when I got in my car to leave, I was chewed out by a local who told me the parking was only for the Funiculare customers. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to friends. Enjoy the view!

Best place ever
We stayed with my fiancee in this hotel mid august 2011. First we were suppose to stay there only for 3 days but we fell in love with the place and decided to stay few days longer. The staff was very nice, even though the language skills were not the best, the smiles were big and real. Food in the hotel restaurant was delicious and the chef/manager of the hotel created a different menu for every night. Prices for food and alcohol were cheap in the hotel and much better than in restaurants down in Laco di Como. Scenery around the hotel was beautiful and the view amazing. The room a had a big balcony with an amazing view of the whole valley and the lake. Theres nothing negative to say about this hotel. Would love to stay there again and probably will! I sincerely recommend this place if you want to experience a bit of the real authentic Italy.

Quiet location in Brunate, overlooking Lake Como (easy transfers from one to the another by a spectacular funicular tram up the hillside, e5.10 return tickets, where the return leg can be on a different day to the outward leg). Not the top shelf but realy good value for money. Room was clean, with new furnitures and impressive large balcony. Staff very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast with selection of fresh cheeses and local ham. We've had front room with an amazing views of Como Lake and the Alps. Brunate is a small quiet town with very useful funicular trains going to Como City all day long. Short walk from "lighthouse" and good spot to start hicking up mountains towards Mount Boletto (1.5h). Not worth the effort
Yes there were dramatic views, although view of lake was restricted even on the second floor. The drive up to the hotel is hair-raising to say the least and when we got there the car had to be parked 200 metres away from the hotel next to a crumbling building and we were charged for the priviledge when we checked out. The funicular was closed and as a result local restaurants were shut too. This was a Wednesday in July! Hotel clean, but looked rather tired and in need of a few domestic touches e.g. dead plants on the balcony. Staff helpful, but not over friendly.

Don't stay here unless you have nothing else!
Ants on the bed when I arrived. Showed up past 10 (not knowing that I couldn't check in after this) and they were going to refuse me a room. Finally met me (with a huge attitude) and charged me $35.00 for checking in after 10. So-so breakfast. Asked for new milk, because the milk that had been sitting out was warm and they freaked out. Kind of a cool location, but not worth it.
