![Ritipanna is the Sinhalese term for stilt fishing, which is a traditional method for fishing practiced by most fishermen along the southern coast of Sri Lanka. This art is popularly seen in areas such as Ahangama, Koggala, Welipenna,  Kathaluwa and Thalarambe. A narrow pole is tied to a stick that is anchored on the sea bed. Fisher folk climb onto this stick and settle on the pole for a few hours in an effort to catch some fish.

Fishermen found on stilts are those who do not have access to sophisticated equipment for fishing. These men can make a living simply with the help of two wooden poles to make a stilt. One pole is nailed onto the sea bed and the other is placed like a cross bar and acts as a plank for the fishermen to sit on. Each stilt can accommodate only one fisherman. For catching fish, they create a rod made of Kithul, and a small plastic bag is tied around their waist to hold the fish that they catch. With one hand they hold onto the stilt and with the other they hold the rod that catches fish. "Nice view thru window. Close to the beach, good for sunset view. Anyone can go without a charge. Clean room and supplied cookers as home stay. Dining market at beach 2km away. Bike rental friendly, five minutes walking to the rental and take me back to hotel after returning. Half hour driving to dock for wacthing whales"

"From the moment we arrived to leaving we felt like royality. The hospitality of ALL the staff was outstanding! We stayed 7 nights here and we didnt want to leave… the staff & owners just take time for you, full of smiles and will do absolutely anything for you! Its the best hospitality we have ever received and we have been to many countries! The food was perfection! I dont think ive ever had such beautiful hotel breakfast! Our room was stunning! And the setting for this hotel is just WOW! Definitely a jungle vibe! These owners are so lovely, 2 dutch guys who clearly look after their staff and guests! The chef just amazing too who often comes out and asks how your food was. It was my husbands 50th birthday whilst we were there and they made such a special effort for him. For valentine’s meal, each guest could choose a fish which they caught that day & it was beautifully cooked! The guys on reception helped us with everything!! This hotel is uniquely beautifully built, but has the best service ever! Thank you we will be back ❤️"

"This place was heavenly. Close enough to Fort for tuk-tuk far enough a way for a lovely peaceful space. Pool area was lovely. Rooms spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Breakfast was also perfect and served up to 11.30 They didn't offer dinner but that was no problem as we were able to order Uber eats and they gave us plates Wonderful massages too A lovely chilled oasis "
