Luxury Farm house w/amazing views, natural geothermal hot spring and nature

Newly renovated farm house located in Hvalfjordur only 40 min from Reykjavik on a gated private 1200 acre estate along the coast enjoying spectacular views & nature. There is a natural hot spring, rainbow trout fishing lake and multiple historical landmarks on site. Vikings settled here 1000 years ago and scenes in Game of Thrones were shot on the property. Glymur, highest waterfall in Iceland is 15 minutes away as well as numerous scenic hikes. Geysir and the Golden Circle are ca an hour away.

The luxury farmhouse was completely renovated in 2017 and is part of the Hvammsvik Estate. It was originally built in 1930 as a traditional 3 story farmhouse with exceptional views over the property and Hvalfjörður "Whalefjord" bay. The house is on three floors with two bedrooms and a bathroom on the top floor. An open kitchen, dining room and living room on the first floor. On the ground/Entrance floor you have a TV room, fully equipped bathroom with washer and dryer and a bedroom with 4 bunk beds. Outside you have a courtyard with barbecue and great outdoor wining and dining. The property is full of original Icelandic art by many of Iceland's most promising artists however ultimately its all about the surrounding mountains, the ocean and becoming one with nature.
Hvammsvik Estate consists of several old farm buildings and a large barn that have been newly renovated to meet all modern needs while still keeping the integrity and rustic charm of its origin. One of the unique elements of Hvammsvik Estate is that it is entirely self sufficient both for its hot and cold water both of which are sourced within the Estate. There is a Geothermal hot spring at the oceans edge which is available to our guests and the same well provides all the hot water for the property. As Hvammsvik is a private gated estate you can walk around for hours in total privacy and emerge yourself with nature enjoying the peacefulness of the ocean and the surrounding mountains.
There are over 30 different types of birds in and around Hvammsvik. Wild sheep roam around and if you are lucky you can spot the Arctic Fox roaming around. The Arctic Fox is a small and completely harmless Fox that changes colors with the seasons. There are also a lot of mussels around the islands on the property that are accessible in low tide and are delicious to cook. The season for picking fresh Mussels is September through December. We also highly recommend that our guests visit the newly opened Hvammsvik Hot Springs on the estate where you can enjoy eight hot springs that linger on the edge of the ocean. At the hot springs you can also enjoy great small dishes and a delicious fish soup from our bistro, Stormur.
Hvammsvik is a historical landmark that was first discovered by the Vikings
1000 years ago as is recorded in Landnáma, the Icelandic book of settlers
dating back to the 11th century. No wonder they choose Hvammsvik given its
incredible landscape, natural harbor, geothermal hot spring and
wildlife. The Vikings are not the only ones who fell for the natural
beauty of Hvammvik. Several scenes in Game of Thrones where also shot on
the property highlighting the incredible landscape all around the Fjord.
During World War II Hvammsvik was taken over by the allied forces as
their Naval Headquarters in Iceland. At its peak there where almost
40.000 soldiers in Whale Fjord and over 200 ships. During the War
Hvammsvik was code named "Falcon Crest" and "Falcon Beach" in order not to
reveal its true location hence the name of one of our Lodges. When
Churchill came to Iceland on August 16th 1941 he is said to have met with
F.D Roosevelt Junior in the Lodge on the top of the hill which at the
time was the Naval Communication center for all the ships in Whale
Fjord.
Along with Icelandic tradition Hvammsvik has its share of Trolls and
Elf stories. Many whom are said to be residing in famous rocks and the
hillsides of the property. One of the best know Elf "castle" in Iceland
is "Steðji" or Staupasteinn. There is also said to be an Elf Church and
Elf Queen residing in the hill side right next to the Lodges so dont be
surprised if you witness outer worldly creatures of all sizes at dawn.

Excellent group accommodation
A great place to stay. Hilmar the host made sure we had some activities to consider and places to visit, the property was great and the surrounding area was breathtaking. We visited the hot springs and restaurant and the service was second to none with some of the best trout I have eaten. If you stay here definitely visit Glýmur falls enjoy the scenery and allow yourself to get lost in the wild. Overall this place made the first part of our iceland trip an excellent start.

Beautiful Farmhouse Family Stay
After a very active beginning to our trip on the Golden Circle we wanted a relaxing break during our vacation and Hvammsvik Estate was perfect! We took advantage of the setting and never left the Estate. We walked the property and beaches, crossed the land bridge to the island, ate at the cafe and had drinks while relaxing in the hot springs. The food at the cafe was outstanding! (We enjoyed the seafood soup so much, we went back for more the next day.) The farmhouse was very comfortable and great for our group of 7 adults. Decor was beautiful and the small details were perfect. Would highly recommend staying here.

Stunning!
The farm house was the highlight of our trip to Iceland. It was beautifully appointed down to the last detail, the views were otherworldly, and the hot springs were divine. Hilmar responded immediately to every question, and the hot springs staff were kind, welcoming, and helpful. We had intended to take some day trips from the farm house during our stay, but once we arrived we saw no reason to leave! We hiked, soaked in the natural hot springs, explored the black beaches, and visited Steðji-Staupasteinn to thank the elves for allowing us to stay on their land. It was pure magic, and we will be back!

Lovely house in a gorgeous setting
Five of us (all adults) enjoyed our stay in the Farm House at Hvammsvik...we wish we could have stayed longer! We had a couple of issues/questions when we arrived, and the polite staff dealt with them immediately. The house is stylishly decorated, well-stocked, and very clean. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. We soaked in the private hot spring one evening and the public hot springs/pools the next night. It was a good location for our day trip to Snæfellsnes peninsula. We highly recommend Hvammsvik Farm House!

Amazing Stay!!
The views from this property are so beautiful The house is wonderfully spacious and allows everyone to have their own space and relax after a day of hiking. Very well equipped for a family stay. The location is perfect for day trips to different areas of Iceland. The hosts are wonderful and quick to respond if anything is needed. We loved the chickens that greeted us each morning. We would love stay here again on our next trip to Iceland.

Gorgeous property for a family stay
Our family - 2 couples with 4 kids - enjoyed an incredible week at this lovely farmhouse. Everything was as described, and the scenery cannot be beat. Beautifully designed interior with comfortable beds and linens. Kitchen and the outdoor grill was just enough for cooking family meals and we all enjoyed exploring the property and the outdoor hot tubs. We made several excursions that the property managers recommended, which were a bit of driving but well worth it. The host was very easy to work with and communicated well with us. Overall an amazing experience.

Incredible 🇮🇸 Iceland!
The house, located in a breathtaking harbour is beautifully decorated and smartly appointed. The view from every window is gorgeous. In the morning we were greeted to the views of the farms rooster and three hens leisurely foraging for for their breakfast on a hillside of green grass and yellow flowers. Our family enjoyed walking the shores of the fjord and hunting for and finding a few small treasures, dating back to WWII from the Canadian and US Naval presence. We also soaked our tired hiking bodies in the natural geothermal pool, by the light of the midnight sun. The view and experience- magical. Our stay was simply enchanting! Our host were wonderful. Thank you for your great resturant, grocery store, and bakery recommendations. As you recommeded, we bought beef from the near by farm. Everything was delicious. Thank you for sharing your property with our family!
