Shugafoot Oceanfront

Shugafoot or Shugyfoot, nickname grandma gave us.

Upon your arrival at Shugafoot you will notice an updated kitchen and living area with spectacular oceanfront views. Ocean view from every bedroom. The back porch provides shelter from rain with an adjacent sundeck and bench. The back oceanview porch/deck spans the entire length of the cottage. Gorgeous sunrises, peaceful view. Dolphins commonly swim by. Great location with many restaurants nearby or enjoy a nice dinner at Shugafoot with a stocked kitchen. A gas grill is located in the driveway. All bedrooms have oceanviews. Master has a King with a new mattress and box spring with a single stack washer and dryer in the closet, the 2nd bedroom is a Queen with a new mattress and 3rd bedroom has twin beds. The storage room below has a small collection of beach toys, beach chairs and umbrella.

Parking for 2-3 cars in driveway. Dogs are welcome, dog gates have been added to allow your pets to enjoy the ocean-breeze on the shaded porch.

Best Features: Deck and Covered porch. Fantastic ocean views, Open Kitchen, Stainless Steal appliances.

  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Shugafoot was perfect for a relaxing week at the beach. Mark was an exceptional host and responded quickly to all questions. The cottage was clean and very comfortable for bringing a pet. The evenings were quiet and the location was convenient to food and shopping.

Place was in a great location on the beach. Ocean view from deck is not as pictured. See pics from our stay. House is a bit tired looking despite some updates. Be aware that you have to buy supplies like trash bags, dishwasher soap, laundry detergent, fabric softener and everything for cooking including basic spices. Beds aren’t made up on arrival but linens are provided. Maybe this is all standard for this area but not typical of other stays at vacation re talks, so be aware. Die the cost and view, we didn’t think this was a good value.

Beautiful view

Location could not be beat. Steps from the ocean and protected by a substantial dune. Hearing the waves as we fell asleep in the comfortable king bed was a plus. Sadly the place needs updating to be clean enough for us to come back.

Snowed in!

Everything was clean and organized. Sheets and towels provided which is not common! Rooms were a great size and everything was pretty kid friendly. I must mention the book! The Little Blue Cottage book was such a hit that we have already found it on Amazon! ordering when we get home.

Even better than we expected

The host was friendly, great communication and help. The property is ON the beach, just a dune and there it is. The views from nearly all the rooms in the house are mesmerizing. The kitchen is modern and well-equipped, and the new beds are spacious and comfortable. Excellent wi-fi and cable. Plenty of parking. Our Havanese, Dickens, was also comfortable, and loved the beach. Recommend the Black Pelican and Hurricane Mo's. Touring the Wright Memorial, including climbing Kill Devil Hill, is a must. We had a great time, and found it to be a good value.

Great winter stay at the beach

The house was just the right size for our family (and could have fit a few more) the location was excellent, and we loved watching dolphins from the front porch. Great sunsets and beautiful stargazing. The host was also very attentive (thank you, Mark!). We would definitely come again.

Great Location

I can't say enough about this place, we have stayed here a couple time and hope to stay again in the future. Great dog friendly house and perfect location for a weekend away, not far from the bridge and right on the beach. The house was clean and the kitchen pretty well stocked with everything we needed.

Relaxed and happy

That’s how we felt, relaxed and happy staying at Shugafoot. The views are beautiful and the beach is right over the dune. Coming back from the beach we appreciated the outdoor shower to rinse off. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, dishes etc.. The King bed was comfortable as well as the queen. We loved the huge deck to have coffee in the morning and later wine. Overall the place was great!

Love the beach, property nice.

Other the Tropical Storm/Hurricane Debby causing a trip to be wet, the trip went well. This is our fifth time to the Outer Banks and we love this part of America. The house was very nice, just needs a little updating and refining.

Rainy Beach Trip

Although it rained almost our entire trip, the location on the beach cannot be beat. Our last two days we had views of dolphins and we even had a little time to relax on the deck. The house was clean but, as maybe expected in a pet friendly location, the couches were a little rough and ready. Plus that master bathroom is a little tiny (as food poisoning was involved. Yikes!) I appreciated Mark's communication and overall the location makes it!

Dying wish not fullfilled

It was a cute cottage and most of the photos of the cottage were accurate. However, the photos showing the current state of the beach view and beach access are inaccurate. The beach view and access to the beach, per the photos, was the primary reason we picked this property. It appeared in the photos to be a dream property for my husband who has terminal cancer and wanted to be at the beach and watch the waves crash on the shore while sitting in the house. He also wanted to walk down to the shore line on his own without his wheel chair. The photos provided on VRBO showed the possibility of achieving these two wishes. However, that was not the case when we arrived. In reality there is a HUGE DUNE blocking both the view of the beach from the house and the access to the beach. My husband did not get either of his wishes. We spoke with a neighbor on the beach and they stated it has not been that way in over 5 years. Other properties that were priced less had pictures of dunes blocking the view and access to the beach, which is why we didn’t pick those. The main reason for picking this property over the others that were on the beach,was based on the pictures of the view, which are not current.The host never responded when I brought up the issue of the accuracy of the beach photos and some other smaller issues we had concerning the house. We made the best of the situation because we had no choice, but being my first experience with VRBO I would ? every host from now on age of photo

Great location

The property was perfect, but unfortunately the hurricanes were coming so we had to leave early due to the property being so close to the water. For someone not used to being by the ocean, it was too scary for us to stay. Unfortunately we were unable to get money back from the rental or the trip insurance. That still wouldn't prevent us from returning again though!

2023 Kitty Hawk Vacation

Each year our family rents a house in different location along the Outer Banks. This year we chose Kitty Hawk. We loved the beach front property and convenient walk to the beach. The deck view was fabulous. Our favorite part is that the place was pet friendly and equipped with a doggie gate on the deck. Thank you for an enjoyable stay.
