Very good valued property for the area, friendly staff, small but nice pool area on rooftop, surprisingly good quesadillas at restaurant, skip the chicken burger. Good cups, plates, cooking utensils. comfortable beds, good wifi, close to yaya and Prestiege malls, lots of restaurants within 5-10 min walk. shower pressure lacking.
All in all great value.

My wife and I spent only one night at Kahama but we gladly would have stayed longer!
The room was comfortable with a large bed. The only downside is we were facing the road, so it was quite loud. Location is very central, we walked to the Nairobi Convention Centre and around the downtown area and got back very easily.
The food was excellent. We had dinner at the restaurant downstairs after a day of sightseeing, and we really enjoyed our meal. Breakfast in the morning also had a great...

The hotel was close to the airport and we had to leave at 2:30 am. After a few hours sleep in a vey clean room we took a taxi (arranged by the staff at the hotel) to the airport. In all, a very pleasant stay that was made even better by the hardworking and friendly staff.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a budget hotel in Kiambu cost?
Budget hotel prices in Kiambu vary, but you can find a great deal from CA $22 on Expedia. To find the cheapest budget hotels, be flexible with your dates—typically, off-peak and mid-week stays are cheaper. Stretch your budget further by looking for hotels with free breakfast, free parking or free airport shuttles. Sort your search results by "Price: low to high" to see our lowest rates.
Which area of Kiambu is best to stay in for cheap hotels?
For budget-conscious solo travellers visiting Kiambu, the town centre and areas along the main Thika Superhighway offer the most accessible and affordable hotel options. These locations are well-connected and provide a good starting point for exploring the wider region.
The Kiambu town centre itself has several guesthouses and smaller hotels that cater to a local clientele, often at lower prices than those found closer to Nairobi. You'll find basic, clean rooms, and these establishments are usually within walking distance of local markets, eateries, and public transport hubs, making it easy for solo travellers to get around cheaply.
Further along the Thika Superhighway, especially around areas like Ruiru or Juja, you'll find more modern, yet still affordable, hotel choices. These often cater to business travellers and offer good value, sometimes including breakfast. Public transport, primarily matatus, is readily available along this route, connecting you to Nairobi and other parts of Kiambu County without breaking the bank.
When is the most affordable time to visit Kiambu?
The most affordable time to visit Kiambu is generally during the long rainy season, from March to May, or the short rainy season, from October to December. During these periods, travel demand typically lessens, leading to lower prices for accommodation and flights.
For solo travellers, visiting during these off-peak months means you're more likely to snag deals on guesthouses and local tours, as operators are keen to fill spots. While you might encounter some rain, there are still plenty of sunny intervals, and the landscape is lush and green. This time of year also offers a more authentic experience, with fewer tourists around.
Another advantage of travelling during these shoulder seasons for budget-conscious travellers is the potentially lower cost of transport. Airlines often have promotional fares, and local transport options, while always economical, might be less crowded, making for a more relaxed journey.
Is Kiambu a budget-friendly destination?
While Kiambu is generally considered a more expensive destination within Kenya, travellers can absolutely experience its charm on a budget with some smart planning.
For accommodation, look beyond the high-end resorts and consider guesthouses or self-catering apartments, particularly in areas like Ruiru or Thika, which offer better value and are still well-connected to Kiambu town. Solo travellers might find good deals at smaller, locally-run lodges.
Couples can save on dining by exploring local eateries and markets, where authentic Kenyan dishes like 'ugali' and 'sukuma wiki' are both delicious and affordable. Many of Kiambu's natural attractions, such as walks through coffee plantations (some offer free or low-cost tours) or exploring local villages, are free or come with minimal entrance fees.
Is it cheaper to book flights and a hotel in Kiambu as a package?
Booking a hotel and flight package on Expedia can be cheaper than booking flights and hotels separately. Bundling can lead to significant savings, especially for international travel or when booking well in advance. However, savings vary depending on factors like destination, travel dates, and availability, so it’s wise to compare options. Can I cancel my budget hotel reservation on Expedia?
Many Expedia hotel reservations are refundable, provided that you cancel before the hotel's cancellation deadline. This is often within 24-48 hours of your scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. For maximum flexibility, use Expedia's "Fully refundable property" filter during your search to find the right budget hotel in Kiambu for you.
