The best area to stay in Kastro is the village of Kastro itself, particularly around the main square and the streets leading to the castle.

This historic village is built around the medieval castle, offering a unique setting with narrow, cobbled streets and stone houses. The main square, Plateia Kastro, is a focal point with a few traditional tavernas and shops. The castle ruins, including a Venetian tower, are easily accessible from here, providing fantastic views of the surrounding countryside and the Ionian Sea.

For couples seeking a romantic and peaceful getaway, staying within the village offers an authentic experience. You're just a short walk from the castle, superb for enjoying sunsets, and the local tavernas provide a taste of traditional Greek cuisine in a relaxed setting. The village's quiet nature makes it ideal for a tranquil escape.

Families might also find Kastro appealing, especially those with an interest in history. Exploring the castle and its surroundings can be an adventure for children, and the calm pace of village life offers a pleasant contrast to busier tourist spots.

The best time to go to Kastro is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from May to early June or in September and early October.

These periods offer pleasant weather, with warm but not excessively hot temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the historical sites and enjoying the natural beauty of the region. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. The sea is also warm enough for swimming during these times.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, these months provide the great balance of good weather and a more tranquil setting. You can enjoy strolls around the Kastro (castle) without the hustle and bustle, dine at local tavernas at your leisure, and experience the local culture more intimately.

Travellers interested in outdoor activities, such as hiking or visiting nearby archaeological sites, will also find the shoulder seasons more comfortable.
