"This was absolutely my favorite. I can’t wait to bring my boys. The casita was like a tiki hut. The grounds were tropical jungle and the staffs were warm and welcoming. I have nothing negative about this hotel."
"This is one of those hotels that you almost don't want to talk about for fear of it becoming too popular. The owners are very friendly and it feels like being a guest in a private home with staff to take care of everything for you."
"We had a fantastic stay here! The owners run a proud family business. The property is beautiful. We came with 3 families — the rooms were set up perfectly for 4. We ate on site one night and the food was delicious.

Cafe Playa Negra
10/10 Excellent
"This was easily one of the best stays we’ve ever had. Café Playa Negra is everything a boutique hotel should be—warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully run. We were greeted like family and offered lime slush drinks that were pure bliss. Our room was spotless and beautiful, the meals were delicious, and the pool was a perfect escape.
Nixon was amazing—so kind and attentive, making sure everything went smoothly.
This place has heart. And by staying here, you’re supporting the real people of Playa Negra—not just a vacation rental owned by investors. We felt good knowing our visit made a positive impact. We’ll definitely be back."
Villa Esperanza - Luxury Beachfront Villa In Tropical Paradise
10/10 Excellent
"Agree with most of the previous reviews but would like to add a couple things we did. We had a family of ten 6 adults, 4 teenage kids. Working with Mary Diekers, the rental property manager, we employed a ten person van and driver to pick us up at the airport. Turns out he was also an excellent daily tour guide, setting up and driving us to zip line, ATV, horse back riding, and river cruise activities. His name is Jeffery Guevara, very friendly, speaks fluent English, and was knowledgable on everything Costa Rican. We also selected to have evening chefs cook dinner for us on three occasions. This was especially helpful after returning from a busy day of activities. Highly recommend Chefs Garrett Hurley and his wife. Their food preparation was incredible, much better than any restaurant. We also rented an SUV at the airport as kind of a back up. As stated by others the property is realatively isolated with bummpy dirt roads in and out. "
"We absolutely loved our time here! The property was just perfect! We were first timers to Costa Rica and fell in love with it! Loved having coffee every morning on the porch, then taking a walk on the beach, and enjoying the rest of the day in the pool. The evenings at the recommended restaurants were fabulous. We loved every one of them. They were each unique in their own way. I do recommend renting a car. We were a bit nervous about it, but it was fine. This allowed us to venture out some. We went to Tamarindo, as well as, travelled to the National Park, Rincon de la Vieja. Highly recommend. We are already planning our next visit. "
Magic place with ocean view & direct beach access - A wood house in paradise

"It was a delightful stay! Beautiful and quiet beach! Loved the view and access to the beach.Nice and private. Watched the gorgeous sunset every evening. AC was a plus. The hosts were very considerate and so nice. They came and got garbage and changed our sheets which was so nice. We would definitely rent this place again! Truly a Magical Place"
Private oceanfront villa with beautiful beach, spectacular sunsets
10/10 Excellent
"We loved everything about our stay at Coco Flotante. You want beach front? This is the place! You want a pool? This is the place? You want quiet but close to restaurants and activities? This is the place! There were 8 of us total, 4 adults and 4 kids (2 families toga travel together). Kids aged 8, 10, 11, and 12. Two master suites downstairs (both sets of parents stayed), one bedroom with a queen, and one bedroom with 2 twins (all 4 kids stayed upstairs). Another sitting area and bar upstairs as well.Outdoor seating area and the pool were our favorites. Large kitchen with everything you need to cook. We cooked most meals. We did eat out a few times. The property caretakers (house next door) were so nice. Never intrusive. We had a flat tire one day on our rental van, and they assisted us with finding the number to call to have someone come fix it. There dog came to visit us daily when we were outside, but never pestered us, and was super friendly. Only things to caution if traveling with older folks or young children, there are steep outside stairs to the upstairs of the house. And, there are steep stairs to the beach. Neither of those bothered us at all!As others have said, the pictures of this property online don’t do this place justice. It’s amazing! If you’re on the fence- make the choice to rent this place- you won’t regret it! "
"Latica lodge was amazing to stay at! If you’re looking for that community vibe then this should be on the top of your list. Everyone from all over the world staying there, all having breakfast/supper together was spectular. The owners are everyday people willing to help you out with everything they made the stay so enjoyable. It’s definitely off the beaten path, I would recommend having a 4x4 vehicle to tackle the roads getting there and getting around. There’s a couple amazing beaches (best we thought on the whole west coast) super close and they are all so different. Would highly recommend staying here! Pura vida!"
