We arrived at the cottage to realize that we’d not been given any code to get into the property. There is no cell phone coverage for about 2 hours either side of the accommodation, so we waited until a local cleaning company came and was cleaning another cottage. We flagged them down and they let us into the accommodation and said they would contact the owners. When we got into the accommodation we realized that it had not been cleaned. The garbage was full (and stinky)- all the bedding and towels were all dirty. We called the owners and they assured us that they’d send someone right away. We waited for about 3 hours, and at about 7pm when no one showed up we looked for alternate bedding. There was no spares in the house, so we began doing laundry. During this time we attempted to contact the owners multiple times, and kept getting the same signal that they were “on the other line”.
The dryer was so slow that it took until 4:00am before the last load was dried. Kept trying to contact the the owners into the next day. Sent them an email letting them know I’d been trying to call- and they simply apologized and said they had not missed our calls from the property (no attempt to call us). The place was finally cleaned 4:00pm on the second night of our stay. The owners have not tried to contact us- or compensate us for their mistake leaving us with dirty bedding and no towels for half our stay.
Such a disappointing stressful holiday to take our mother and grandmother on.
