« Emplacement face à l'océan idéal. Mais pas grand chose autour. Immeuble très vieillot. Odeur pas très agréable dans les chambres. Ménage douteux. Petit déjeuner se limitant aux toast, œuf dur, céréales, café. Restaurant attenant qui vend des snacks, idéal pour le midi avec les enfants très coûteux. Et transat sur la plage de l'hôtel payant, ce qui n'est pas indiqué au départ. Mais heureusement la mer est belle et la plage aussi. »

« Parking was excellent! The room was accessible as I can’t use a tub. The water was moderately hot but took a while to heat up. There were no shelves in the bathroom. The floors were nice laminate and very clean as was the large shower. Plenty of towels. Lighting was very unique and handy. The TV was very new and easy to use. It appeared the room was upgraded. « Solo vacation trip. For the positives, bathroom looks to have been mostly remodeled. Other than the toilet and it's amenities, the bathroom looked clean. The lighting in the entire room was very good. As was the flooring. Now for the negatives. I'll leave that on the after-stay review. »

Brookgreen Gardens as we know it today was conceived by philanthropists Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington. He was the heir to a railroad fortune, and she was a famous sculptor raised by parents who instilled in her a love for art and nature. They married in 1923, when she was already an established sculptor.  In the late 1920s, Anna was taken ill by tuberculosis and they traveled to South Carolina in search of a warmer climate to aid her recovery. Here, they fell deeply in love with the beauty of the lowcountry; they purchased the nearly 10,000 acres from the Waccamaw River to the Atlantic Ocean that once made up the four plantations to create their winter retreat.
