Note on Airbnb Pricing Changes


Airbnb recently changed the way service fees are collected for hosts who use professional property management software like ours. Instead of splitting the fee between hosts and guests, Airbnb now charges the full 15.5% service fee directly to hosts. This means our nightly rates may look a little higher on Airbnb compared to some other listings, but the total price you pay on their platform as a guest is very similar to what it was before. We wanted to share this openly so you know that these differences are the result of Airbnb’s new policy, not an increase in what we earn from your stay.

Please be aware that from October to April every year, the
government of BC requires that all passenger vehicles driving up Hemlock
Valley Road must use winter tires (Sidewall must be labelled with M+S,
or the 3-peaked mountain/snowflake symbol) and be prepared to use tire
chains when necessary. For more information, please check the Government of BC website.

And please also note that April and May are sometimes blessed with more winter snow than spring rain, and those accumulations can take a while to fully melt. Check weather reports here, or contact us directly for current conditions at the chalet to avoid surprises.

Due to the new normal created by the pandemic (remember that?), we continue to block two days after each booking to allow for a thorough cleaning of the entire home and to sanitize frequently touched surfaces between reservations. Our aim is to have you feel safe staying at Bear Behind. If you have any concerns regarding decorative pillows, throws or other items you’d rather avoid, please message us and we’ll remove them for you.

If you have not been to Hemlock Valley before, it is a quiet alpine community with no grocery or fuel services. Provisions must be brought up the mountain with you and Bear Behind has room to accommodate them during your stay.

During the good times and difficult stretches in our lives, it's the promise of Hemlock's solitude while keeping friends and loved ones close at hand that makes this place so darn special.

Please also take the time to go over our house rules before your stay. While we invite you to come, relax and escape the everyday at least for a little while, we also wish to remind you that this is our home. We love our Bear Behind and we do our best to make it charming for you. We hope you enjoy it and see fit to treat it with respect.
