Hampton Roads Naval Museum reveals and commemorates the rich regional history of the U.S. Navy. It is on the second floor of the Nauticus building, with displays covering the regional battles of the American Civil War and World War II, among many other military events. Browse the exhibits to learn about the role of the Naval forces in the Hampton Roads region.

Participate in a guided tour of the museum for a more comprehensive understanding of its displays. The institution also conducts lectures and educational events and activities. See the remains of the Civil War shipwrecks of the USS Cumberland and the CSS Florida.

Admire the historical relics and works of art in temporary exhibits, which have included such themes as “Animals and the U.S. Navy” and “Cuba Libre.” Explore the permanent displays containing artifacts from the 18th-century Battle of the Chesapeake, the American Civil War, World War II and the Cold War. The museum also has many ship replica models, naval prints and underwater discoveries.

Browse the books on display in the research library. See the plans of how to build some of the most iconic ships with LEGO pieces. Get a look at the impressive USS Wisconsin that is berthed beside the museum. It served in both World War II and the Korean War.

The ship and the museum are open Tuesday through Saturday from morning until late afternoon. Sundays it opens from noon. Although the Nauticus building has an entrance fee, the naval museum remains free to visit.

The Hampton Roads Naval Museum overlooks the Elizabeth River in the heart of Norfolk in southeastern Virginia. Take a bus to the road running parallel to the museum. Visit nearby sights, such as Town Point Park, the Roper Performing Arts Center and the MacArthur Center.
