"Altogether everything was okay. Though the statys of the washing area was not in good condition. The sink and washing washing machine had mould all over and this makes one doubt the cleanliness of the towels and and beddings washed in it. Considering the size of the property, 15 units of electricity was not enough for 3 nights yet there was 9 of us in the property. Wifi was selective on some phones. Water dispenser was not replenished. You need to consider the size of the family before rationing...

Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa, Mombasa

"Our stay at Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa was memorable, thanks in large part to Mr. Peter, the resort driver. He was waiting for us when we arrived at the Mombasa train terminal and immediately made us feel welcome. He was extremely friendly, taught us a little Swahili, and shared interesting facts about Mombasa’s history as we drove past various locations on the way to the resort. If possible, request Mr. Peter as your driver—he is the best! We also loved dining at Thai-Ci and we ate there every day. Our favorites were the tempura shrimp and wok chicken with fried rice. We paid for our shuttle from train station in advance. My husband and I requested an update on the $59 credit at least three times, and each time we were told that the staff were checking on it. At checkout, we were informed that we needed to pay for our transportation back to the train station. I asked whether our credit could be applied, and they agreed. The standard shuttle cost was $40, but we were not offered the remaining $19 balance. In short, the all-inclusive package covers only a one-way pickup from Mombasa Airport; train-station transfers may involve additional charges, so confirm the arrangements and any credits in advance. Bring plenty of Kenyan shillings for tips because the resort does not have an ATM, and there is not one nearby. Also, our room was very hot, and we were unable to adjust the temperature to and there were no fan in our suite."

"I stayed at the Bliss Resort for 4 nights on business. This is a nice hotel with large bedrooms. It was mostly quiet (see below) and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good and the on-site restaurant was VERY good. They have both an Indian menu and a more American pub style menu. The Indian food was really good and not too expensive. The gym is small but I used it once and there was only one other person in the gym, which was fine. Overall my stay was good and I would consider staying again. However, there are two downsides to this hotel. First off, it's important to know that this hotel does NOT have beach access. There is a pool, but you need to walk 4-5 minutes to get to the beach, and the walk isn't the most relaxing. Additionally, I would avoid staying at this hotel for the next couple of months. They are completing renovations by the pool and the exterior. They are also painting the interior, which looked very nice, but it's not the most enjoyable to be staying during these renovations. I had scaffolding outside my window and one day the workers were working directly outside my window. Overall a good stay, but I would prefer beach access. This is a good hotel for business travelers who don't care about beach access."
