We were really looking forward to this healing resort experience but we were disappointed. In a place where we were looking to relax and rest after a week of walking 30k steps a day in Tokyo we were a bit disappointed in how stuffy it felt. We knew this was a Balinese place so we weren't even looking for the traditional experience but from the moment we entered we felt really awkward, almost like we were inconveniencing them. The place just didn't seem very relaxing, more like a rigid schedule at a boarding school vibe. When we arrived we requested a late checkout but on the day of checkout they kept calling us... 1st to say we need to check out (when we already said late checkout), 2nd to tell us they will charge us for each other, 3rd time to tell us to leave. We requested 11 am checkout and we were in the lobby at 11:05. The food was not good and if you want to change, good luck, cause you need 3 days advanced notice to change anything. It was so bad we went out the final night and I told them we wouldn't be there but they still called us about the dinner. They call you to make sure you arrive on time... Even after I said we won't be there. Maybe communication issue. I felt like we were getting punished for missing that horrible raw fish dinner. Beds were not very comfortable. For the money I paid there should have been a bit more flexibility to make it a relaxing resort. Next time we go to hakone we will not reserve here again.

Thank you for staying at our ryokan. We apologize for any inconvenience caused in terms of communication. As you say, our ryokan is strict about time. This is the Japanese way of working, and it is necessary to provide the most optimal service in the best condition. If one customer is not punctual, it may cause inconvenience to all other customers.I understand that there are many different opinions on food. There are both those who say it's delicious and those who say it's not.We don't care about that. Our chefs believe it is important to create the best food possible to the best of their ability. If you want to eat your favorite food,Pleas go to a buffet style restaurant. And indeed you told us that dinner on the second day was unnecessary. But we cannot believe it to the end. This is because we have received requests to add dinner again after canceling many times in the past.It gets very busy for the cook. Please understand. We would like to avoid unnecessary risks by staying in close contact with our customers as much as possible. Please understand them and make a reservation at our ryokan. thank you.

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel. As you said, our private hot springs are very popular. It is also our greatest strength. And our services are also very popular these days. Our inn has many foreign staff who can speak English and Japanese. I am studying hard so that I can provide Japanese hospitality and services to foreign tourists. Your reviews will motivate them and increase their confidence. We strive to provide better and more personalized service to each customer. All of our employees will do their best to ensure that everyone can enjoy their meals, including the presentation of the food. If you have any food allergies, please let us know in advance. We generally cannot respond to calls on the same day. note that. Our hotel is located in the center of Hakone. It is also convenient as a base for sightseeing. Hakone can be accessed by Romance Car from Shinjuku Station. There is also a Shinkansen from Odawara Station to Kyoto Station. It will also be easier to move around. Check-in is from 3 PM and check-out is at 10 AM. Please note that we will be operating with a small number of people. As you said, there is a steep slope from Hakone Yumoto Station to the hotel. There is also a public shuttle bus from the station to the hotel. We recommend that tourists with a lot of luggage take a bus or taxi. This has been announced in advance. That's because we've seen time and time again the challenges our guests face when visiting hotels. Believe please. Hakone has a lot to enjoy in each season. There are also many attractive sightseeing spots. Please come to Hakone again. thank you very much.

Thank you very much for staying at Hakone Airu this time. We are very happy to receive your high evaluation. We offer relaxation in a place away from the crowds of city. Our inn is located on a hill about 15 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station. I think it would be difficult for foreign tourists with a lot of luggage to come walking. We recommend arriving by bus or taxi in advance. However, as you said, there are very few taxis now. This is a problem common to all tourist destinations in Japan. In that case, it would be a good idea to send your luggage from Hakone Yumoto Station to the hotel and walk there. And the view from the top of the hill is exceptional. It will soothe the fatigue of your journey. For dinner, we offer Japanese Kaiseki. Japanese kaiseki is a traditional dish that uses plenty of seafood. I understand that it is not acceptable to foreign tourists. However, what you should definitely try is the kaiseki cuisine. We also sell plans such as beef shabu kaiseki and sushi restaurant seating. The concept of our inn is Balinese style. Most of our employees are foreigners, and we also focus on hospitality. Your reviews will also motivate them. Our hotel's greatest strength is the private open-air bath in every room. You can enjoy a panoramic view of the Hakone Mountain Range, and the synergistic effect of the hot springs will help you relax your body and mind. Enjoy the hot springs to your heart's content. The guest rooms are approximately 20 square meters (11 tatami Japanese-style rooms), and are equipped with a terrace and an open-air bath. Japanese-style rooms come with futon bedding. Please note that all rooms have the same structure and are basically for 2 to 3 people. We also have many original amenities available. In addition to shampoo, treatments, and body soap, we also offer scrubs and emulsion. Please note that these are included in the price. We will continue to strengthen our differentiation from other companies as a hot spring inn in Bali and strive to provide hospitality. We look forward to your next visit.

Thank you for staying at our ryokan. Our ryokan is located on a hill about 15 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station. It would also be convenient as a base for Hakone sightseeing. Our ryokan has many foreign staff. Please understand in advance that there are almost no Japanese staff. It strives to study Japanese hospitality and convey it to foreign tourists, including trainees. Please understand that there are some shortcomings. Both dinner and breakfast are served in a private room.Dinner is a Japanese kaiseki course. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese meal served as a hospitality meal at a drinking party. It's more like a snack that you can enjoy visually, and it's not a dish that focuses on volume. If you are concerned about the amount of food, we recommend adding additional dishes as an option. We also sell beef steak and beef shabu-shabu.All 15 rooms at our ryokan have private hot springs. This will be the greatest reward for guests. We will try our best to satisfy as many foreign tourists as possible. Please come to Hakone again.thank you.

Thank you for staying at our ryokan. Our ryokan is located in the center of Hakone Yumoto. Approximately 15 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station It is also convenient for sightseeing to Lake Ashi and Gora. Our ryokan also serves dinner and breakfast in a private dining room. It will give you a private and special time. A Japanese Kaiseki meal is served for dinner. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese meal that uses a lot of seafood. In addition to standard Kaiseki, we also sell beef shabu-shabu, beef steak, and sushi plans, so please consider them.Coffee is also available in the room. Our facility is operated as an inn, not a hotel. In addition to coffee, we also provide local green tea and roasted tea in the room to provide you with the good culture of Japan. If you would like freshly brewed coffee, please use the morning service fee. We are looking for a special space that combines a Balinese-style resort and a Japanese-style inn. Please refrain from using this hotel if you are looking for a complete Japanese-style ryokan atmosphere and service from a Japanese person. We are particular about meal times, check-in and check-out times, etc. This is because we operate as a Japanese inn. This is because Japanese people are very strict and particular about time. We believe that by following these rules, we will be able to provide the best possible service. Please understand that.We will continue to make efforts to please foreign tourists. Please come to Hakone again. thank you.

Thank you very much for using Hakone Airu. We are glad to hear that you were satisfied with the food and hot springs. Our hotel operates as a Balinese-style hot spring resort inn, and we strive to differentiate ourselves from traditional Japanese-style inns. Our concept is to make you feel like you are traveling to an overseas resort with the atmosphere inside the hotel and our employees. If you would like the atmosphere of a Japanese-style inn or the hospitality of Japanese staff, please refrain from using our hotel. The hot springs are constantly flowing fresh hot spring water from our 5 in-house hot springs. All 15 guest rooms are equipped with private open-air baths, so you can enjoy the hot springs anytime and as many times as you like. Additionally, since we are located on a hill in Hakone Yumoto, the view from the terrace creates a relaxing synergistic effect. Dinner and breakfast are served in a private dining room. We hope you can enjoy this place as well without worrying about other customers. Original mattresses are used for bedding. Made of hard material with a thickness of 15 cm, you can sleep with a feeling similar to that of a bed. In order to reduce the hardness of the tatami mats, we have asked the bedding manufacturers to go beyond their limits and create them at this thickness. We also have an original set of amenities available. This item is also sold at shops and has been well received by female customers. We will continue to strengthen our differentiation from other companies and pursue the hospitality that is unique to Hakone Airu. looking forward to your next visit. Thank you very much.

We totally enjoyed our stay at Hakone Airu! The property and rooms were beautiful and the private onset although a little too hot was very enjoyable! The meals were very generous. Be prepared for a lot of fish though. Even if you order the shabu shabu, you will get fish appetizers. The meals are definitely for those with adventurous tastes and we enjoyed the experience. The only thing I can say I didn’t like was that for breakfast we had to pay extra if we wanted a second coffee- that didn’t seem right. We recommend this ryokan.

I really enjoyed my stay, although I do feel the price was quite high for what I got. Check in was quick and I enjoyed the private room for meals along with my room. I ordered the beef meal because I’m not a fan of fish, but all of the appetizers were fish and I felt awful wasting food. Beef was incredible, way too much for one but alas enjoyed it. Private bath was really nice with pretty view as well, was nice spending time outside

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel. All rooms at our inn are equipped with a private hot spring bath with mountain views. You can enjoy hot springs while admiring the beautiful scenery. That is our hotel's greatest strength. The concept and interior design are different from traditional inns. Most of the employees are also foreigners. We will strive to learn Japanese service and give back to our customers. We understand the issues surrounding food. The head chef also changed from this year. But that doesn't mean much progress. This is because our hotel serves Japanese kaiseki cuisine for dinner. Kaiseki is a traditional Japanese cooking method that uses plenty of seafood. It can also be used as a snack for drinks or as a hospitality dish. All menu items are seasoned with soup stock (seafood stock, etc.) and beautifully presented. I understand that foreign guests don't like it. However, as a ryokan, we would like you to experience Kaiseki cuisine. We also sell plans where you can choose your main dish and sushi plans etc. Please note that the dishes prepared by the Japanese chef are not completely vegetarian. We may not be able to accommodate your advance request. If you have dietary restrictions or want to eat what you like, we recommend staying at a hotel that offers buffet-style meals. It's great because you can eat whatever you want whenever you want. We will continue to strive to satisfy even more foreign customers. Hakone has many accommodations and sightseeing spots. Please come to Hakone again. thank you.

Thank you for using Hakone Airu. We are glad that you were satisfied with our stay. Our hotel opened in December 2017, and thanks to you we are celebrating our 6th anniversary. We aim to differentiate ourselves from other companies based on the concept of Balinese style, and strive every day to create unique and comfortable spaces. All 15 guest rooms are equipped with private open-air baths, allowing you to relax your mind and body while gazing at the mountains of Hakone. Both dinner and breakfast are served in a private dining room, so you can relax and enjoy your stay without coming into contact with other guests. Kaiseki cuisine is a type of hospitality cuisine that uses local and seasonal ingredients. We never believe that using high-quality ingredients will lead to customer satisfaction. When it comes to Japanese cuisine, the story of the food is also important. However, your opinion will be shared with the culinary staff. We have original products such as yukatas and pajamas for in-house wear, as well as other amenities. We believe that our hotel's strength lies in its easy access to Hakone Yumoto. As a Balinese-style resort inn, we continue to pursue unique entertainment that cannot be found anywhere else. We look forward to your next visit. thank you very much.

Such a wonderful stay with the ryokan feel. The staff is extremely courteous and helpful in every way. The site is beautiful! They have a gorgeous waterfall in the entry lobby area and smooth tatami floors hotel wide. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The futon beds were super comfy as well! I was afraid it would be difficult sleeping on the floor, but it is a well padded mat that felt no different from a bed, just lower to the ground. We got great rest here. The private onsen bath is worth every penny! You can bathe in your own private room any time of the day and the shower that is accessible from the inside and outside is very useful. Such a wonderful experience here and it really made our Japan trip so much better! Thank you!

All the staffs were very nice and the property is beautiful! We had a good experience! Only one thing we didn't like is the food. We both had different traditional Japanese food before here, but this was not good. I hope the kitchen can explore and if they can improve, this place is a 10/10! Thank you so much for a great service!

Thank you for staying at our ryokan. We are also happy that you were satisfied. In addition to standard Kaiseki, we also sell beef shabu-shabu, beef steak, and sushi plans, so please consider them. For breakfast, you can choose Japanese or Western food. We are looking for a special space that combines a Balinese-style resort and a Japanese-style ryokan. Please refrain from using this hotel if you are looking for a complete Japanese-style ryokan atmosphere and service from a Japanese person. Our chef cannot prepare vegan meals. We have declined that request in advance and asked you to cancel. We try to make vegetarian dishes as much as possible, but we don't know if they will satisfy vegans. Please understand them before making a reservation. We will continue to make efforts to please foreign tourists. Please come to Hakone again. thank you.

Thank you for staying at our hotel. We question and refute your rating.Because you were selfish and did not accept our opinion. You told us at checkout that you developed abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever immediately after dinner. We did not know if the food we provided was the cause, so we recommended that the patient be diagnosed at a hospital. However, you bought medicine at a pharmacy instead of going to the hospital. We served the same food to all other guests on the day. However, none of the other guests or your female partner complained of the same symptoms.Furthermore, food poisoning does not develop immediately after eating.A few hours later, symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and vomiting appear. We didn't want to doubt you, but who knows what could be causing it.So we just wanted you to get a diagnosis at the hospital, and depending on the diagnosis that followed, we could have been able to help you. However, you unilaterally left the hotel without listening to our opinion. No hotel in Japan would respond to a unilateral complaint. We will continue to respect the opinions of our guests and strive to provide the best suggestions.Thank you.

If you are looking for a truly Japanese authentic ryokan experience, this isn’t it. Having visited a few other ryokans before, the experience was disappointing, most of the staff were not Japanese and were not educated on the meal items and could not cater to much requests or needs. The plus point is the size of the private onsen and the amenities in the toilet, compared to other ryokan of similar price range. So if your main purpose of visiting is to fully enjoy the onsen this would be a good choice for you.

Thank you for staying at our ryokan. We are also sorry that you were not satisfied. But I have doubts about your review. Did you check the website carefully and make a reservation? Our inn is named as a Balinese-style ryokan. This is because the structure is not a complete Japanese-style ryokan, but a fusion with a Bali resort. And most of our employees are foreign staff. This has also been explained repeatedly in previous reviews. If you want a complete Japanese-style ryokan atmosphere and service from Japanese staff, please do not stay at our ryokan. This advice is given to prevent mismatch with customer needs. If you are looking for a stay that satisfies you, we recommend that you carefully check the reservation site and past reviews. We will continue our efforts to provide various information to our customers. thank you.

Feeling rushed and less relaxed due to a 9 am check-out (although my booking confirmation stated 10 am). The food didn't meet kaiseki standards compared to other hotels. While the room was nice, the overall experience felt more like a boarding school than a relaxing onsen retreat, making it seem less value for money.

The whole ryokan experience has been on my bucket list forever and when my plans to hike were foiled by some heavy rain, I decided that a ryokan with an in room onsen would be perfect. I used Expedia to book the room and found the ryokan to be quick in their responses and answered very clearly. At check in, we were welcomed with an incredible waterfall and a beautiful lobby. It was so much to take in and I had to pause and admire all the color, fine detail and gorgeous decor. Once inside the room, I immediately showered and jumped into the onsen and melted away into nirvana. We didn't even go into the public bath because the in room bath was way too perfect with the sound of the pouring water, chilling winds and rhythmic rain. The kaiseki meals were a joyful experience and I devoured every last bit of dinner and breakfast. Now, as a westerner, some may not appreciate the flavors but if you have an open mind and a hungry stomach you'll love it. This is a 10 out of 10 experience and will be back again and again and again!

Thank you very much for using Hakone Airu. We are glad to hear that you were satisfied with our stay. Our hotel opened in December 2017, and thanks to your support, we are now celebrating our 6th anniversary. Based on the concept of Balinese style, we strive to differentiate ourselves from other companies and strive every day to create a unique and comfortable space. All 15 guest rooms are equipped with private open-air baths, helping you relax both mind and body along with the Hakone Mountains. Dinner and breakfast are served in a private dining room, so you can enjoy your stay without having to come into contact with other guests. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the room has a compact design of approximately 20 square meters, and has a simple structure that eliminates as much as possible the living feel. It is expected that installing a dining table or sofa will reduce the living space and cause complaints. Also, please understand that we will be serving Kaiseki cuisine one item at a time at the restaurant, taking into consideration the flow of food. We have yukatas and pajamas for in-house wear, as well as a complete set of original products for other amenities. We believe that our hotel's strength is that our location in Hakone Yumoto is very convenient and easily accessible. As a Balinese-style resort inn, we will continue to pursue original entertainment like no other. looking forward to your next visit. Thank you very much.

Amazing stay in Hakone!
Beautiful hotel, with amazing sweet staff, the room was amazing especially the private outdoor onsen in our room. There are also 2 public onsens available on the ground level. Rarely full as most people are in their private room onsen. Close to the train station, and an easy walk into town. A little uphill walk, with suitcases, maybe a challenge, but otherwise, great location! We walked up and down to the train station without a problem. We will be back!!

Thank you very much for staying at Hakone Airu this time. We are very happy to receive the highest evaluation. Our inn is located on a hill about 15 minutes walk from Hakone Yumoto Station. I think it would be difficult for foreign tourists with a lot of luggage to come walking. We recommend arriving by bus or taxi in advance. Please believe this. Shuttle buses are also available. It takes about 1 hour by bus from the hotel to Lake Ashi. However, this will not be a big problem for sightseeing. As you said, the view from the open-air bath is exceptional. Meals are served in a private dining room, so you can enjoy them at your leisure. The concept of our inn is Balinese style. Most of our employees are foreigners, and we also focus on hospitality. Your review will motivate them. Thank you very much.

You are paying for the private onsen. Everything else is ok. Room and bed were nice. Staff are not Japanese, they are Balinese I think. Staff was charming and all, they tried hard, its just not that premier Japanese customer service we were used to at other hotels in Japan. Do not expect your traditional Japanese Ryokan experience here. Dinner was not good at all. I mean seriously, it wasnt that they served like exotic foods, it's just the food was not good. No flavor, sushi wasnt fresh, bad tasting stuff etc. I recommend eating dinner elsewhere, there are lots of nice places with really good food about 10 minute walk from hotel by the train station. Hakone is a beautiful little town to explore anyway. The western breakfast was decent - cant go wrong with eggs and toast. It was a lot of $ per night for subpar food, but you pay for the location and the private onsen which was really nice. Worth it? Kind of..Dont regret it also dont feel like thrilled we did it. Hope this helps.

We also sell plans where you can choose your main dish and sushi restaurant seating plans. A Fun Experience
We enjoyed our stay overall. The staff was very welcoming and greeted us with a glass of Champagne. Super nice touch. The overall room/ beds were nice, great bathroom with really great toiletries, creams, etc. We even bought the Face Peel and Scrub in the gift shop. Our Western style Breakfast was really delicious and more than we could eat. Truly enjoyed. There are a few suggestions that I’d recommend Management consider. It was wintertime and so it was hard to sit on the patio for very long, as it was chilly & it would have been nice to sit at a comfortable table. Therefore- 1) A small Western style (2- seat) table in the room would be nice, allowing for a place to sit & read, (only Japanese TV), as when you’re in your 60’s it’s hard to always sit on the floor with those style Chairs. I’ve seen the taller table in other Ryokans. 2) A more modern Japanese style dinner meal would have been our preferred choice. At least to offer a second option from the extreme Japanese cuisine that was served at dinner. We would have liked to see Sushi (like shown on your website), Sushi rolls, Boa Buns, Ramen, Japanese style BBQ. We didn’t come to dinner on the second night (which we paid for, no refund), because dinner the first night was too fishy tasting and heavy fish oriented. Way out there for the average tourist in our opinion. Too authentic Japanese, for these American tourists. The little Chicken in the soup was weird and cheap. The food quality needs to improve for dinner.

Thank you for staying at our hotel. Thank you for various opinions. Our ryokan is equipped with a dedicated hot spring bath in all rooms overlooking the mountain scenery. You can enjoy the hot spring while watching the beautiful scenery. That is the greatest strength of our hotel. The concept and interior are different from the conventional inn. The room is about 20 square meters in the Japanese -style room. For this reason, chairs, tables, sofas, etc. are not available. Because the room becomes smaller. The room is simple and prioritized. If you need a chair, please tell the front desk. Most employees are also foreigners. We will learn Japanese services and try to return to our customers. Please refrain from the atmosphere of the inn and the service by the Japanese staff. Original products are available for both the amenities and bedding. These are very popular. We offer Japanese kaiseki cuisine for dinner. Kaiseki cuisine is a traditional Japanese cooking method that uses plenty of seafood. It can also be used as a snack and hospitality dish. All menus are seasoned with dashi (seafood, etc.), and the arrangement is beautiful. I understand that foreign guests dislike. However, as a ryokan, I would like you to experience cooking. We also sell plans such as sushi, steak, shabu -shabu, etc. as you say, so please consider it. However, please note that dishes made by Japanese chef are not completely vegetarian dishes. We may not be able to meet your request in advance. If you have a diet or want to eat what you like, we recommend staying at a hotel where you can eat a buffet style. It's great because you can always eat what you want to eat. We changed the chef this year. We will try to improve. We will continue to make more satisfaction with more foreign customers. Hakone has many accommodation facilities and sightseeing spots. Please come to Hakone again.

Overall it's a good experience! The Japaese meal for breakfast and dinner are amazing. The Aroma Massage was in-room and was great. The only downside I have is that the restroom within the room has a constant unpleasant smell. We have to run the exhaust fan all night just to keep it from reaching the sleeping area.
