The Grampians is lovely to visit year-round, but the best time to go is during spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) for the most pleasant weather and ideal outdoor conditions.
Spring is a fantastic time for nature lovers. The weather is generally mild, with average temperatures ranging from 10°C to 20°C, making it great for hiking and exploring the national park. This season sees the wildflowers in full bloom, adding spectacular colour to the landscape. You'll find many walking tracks, like the Pinnacle Walk, less crowded than in peak summer.
Autumn offers similarly agreeable temperatures, typically between 8°C and 18°C, and the landscape transforms with beautiful earthy colours, particularly around Halls Gap. The cooler, drier conditions are excellent for more strenuous activities like rock climbing or longer hikes, such as sections of the Grampians Peaks Trail. It's also a great time for wildlife spotting, as animals are more active in the milder conditions.
While summer (December to February) can be hot, with temperatures often exceeding 30°C, it's still a popular time, especially for water activities in areas like Lake Bellfield. Winter (June to August) brings cooler weather, around 5°C to 12°C, and occasional light snow on higher peaks, which can be quite picturesque for those who enjoy a crisp, quiet escape.
