"They placed me in a room that reeked of mold and mosquito chemicals. When I requested a different room, the staff sprayed deodorant in the one next to mine—I could hear it clearly. When I asked about it, she confirmed it. That response was both unprofessional and unacceptable. I left the property within minutes, wheezing and with a pounding headache."

"L’attention à chaque détail, tant dans l’accueil, la décoration, les services et activités, la nourriture, est exceptionnelle, rarement vu un niveau pareil ! L’hôtel est niché au milieu d’une splendide plantation de thé, juste en lisière de la jungle. Tout est beau, et encore, nous étions au début de la saison des pluies donc avec quelques orages… mais la magie a opéré avec la visites de dizaines de singes, d’oiseaux multicolores… Merci à toute l’équipe pour ce séjour inoubliable ! Mikael"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Gafunzo?
The best area to stay in Gafunzo is near the shores of Lake Kivu, particularly around the main town centre.

This area is the heart of Gafunzo, offering direct access to the lake and its activities. You'll find the main market, local eateries, and essential services here. Most accommodations are situated with lake views, making it a picturesque base for your visit.

For couples seeking a relaxing retreat, staying in a lakeside lodge just outside the main town offers a more secluded experience. These lodges often provide private access to the lake, opportunities for boat trips, and a quieter setting away from any hustle and bustle.

Families will appreciate the convenience of staying closer to the town centre. It provides easy access to local shops for essentials and allows for enjoyable walks along the lakefront.
When is the best time to go to Gafunzo?
The best time to visit Gafunzo is during the long dry season, from June to September, or the short dry season, from December to February.

These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring Gafunzo and the surrounding Western Province. You'll experience less rainfall and comfortable temperatures, making outdoor activities and travel around the region much more enjoyable and convenient.

For those looking to combine their Gafunzo trip with a wider exploration of Rwanda, these dry seasons are also ideal for wildlife viewing, particularly gorilla trekking.
Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?
You can cancel your hotel reservation on Expedia, though it depends on the cancellation policy of your booking. Most bookings are refundable if canceled within 24-48 hours of the scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. If free cancellation is available, you can cancel directly through your Expedia account by logging in, going to "My Trips", and selecting your reservation. To find flexible deals, filter your search by "Fully refundable property" for hotels in Gafunzo.
