Cain City was once a thriving community. The railroad went right through the city and at that time Cain City was divided into numerous city lots, which had both homes and businesses including a bank. The owners of Deer Ridge Cottage offer the history of Cain City along with a map of how things used to look. They offer an interesting view of days gone by. Deer Ridge Cottage sits on a hill that has wonderful views of the countryside and Fredericksburg. The front porch has comfy seating to enjoy these awesome views. You may want to have your camera ready to take photos of the deer scurrying about and the many birds attracted to the feeder on the porch year round. The decorating in this cottage is elegant country with stained concrete floors and faux painted walls. Your hosts have created the cottage with warmth and comfort in mind for your stay. The décor offers some wonderful antiques. Inside is an open living room, dining room and fully equipped kitchen. The living room has a sofa with queen sleeper and rocker placed to enjoy the Satellite television. A table for four sits in front of a window to relish those wonderful outdoor views. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for your stay. The bedroom has a king bed and the bath has a shower. The cottage backs up to a cut in the hill, which is not a safe area for guests to climb, but there is plenty of room in front of the cottage to frolic and play or to relax and take a nap on the hammock. The roads in Cain City are also great areas for bicycling and walking. \*\* Pet friendly for a small additional fee\*\* The home is pet friendly and will accept up to two dogs. However, there is a pet fee of $27/dog/night. Due to the fact that HomeAway/VRBO does not allow us to charge for more than one dog at the time of booking, please let us know if you will be bringing more than one dog, so that we can make sure that you are charged the correct amount. If you bring more than one dog and do not let us know, you will be charged accordingly. Furthermore, please bring crates for your dogs and crate them in your absence from the house, do not allow the dogs on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation. Please Note: You are renting a cabin in the Hill Country which means you may encounter wildlife (Snakes, Deer, Racoons, ETC). Please be aware of your surroundings, and take caution while driving at night. You may also encounter the various bugs, spiders, scorpions and mice that live in the country AND sometimes do make their way inside. Look no further. This was a great cottage. It was so clean, well maintained, so comfortable, and I can go on and on. My husband was so impressed. All the switches were labeled so you didn't have to guess which switch turned on which light. That was a huge plus to me. The cottage is also close to the downtown Fredericksburg. The view was absolutely breathtaking! We saw deer walking around and jumping. Our pet loved this place. We rented this cottage so we could attend a wedding at Camp Hideaway (which was only 4 miles away). We actually thought about skipping the wedding to keep enjoying the front porch. We almost arrived late to the wedding. Ha Ha Ha The only regret I have was that I wish we could have stayed longer, but our life schedule wouldn't have permitted. ##### Ellen L. The goal was for my girlfriend and I to get away for a couple days, see some family, enjoy some sights and ultimately unplug from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This place perfectly fit the bill! It was close enough to town, yet far enough out to have peace, quiet and see the amazing stars. Oh and the view across the valley was incredible. The accommodations were on point! It was tastefully decorated, extremely well stocked and a very comfortable space in every way. If I had one complaint, it would be that I had to drive into town to get the key after a 5 hour drive and drive back into town before a 5 hour drive return it. It's only about 15 minutes each way to get the key, so a minor inconvenience. My only regret is that I had to leave this amazing place and come back home. My huge family has lived in the area for 100 years so I visit often and have stayed in many cabins/homes. This one is hands down my new favorite! It was extremely pleasant to get to sleep in. The property was very clean, quiet and extremely peaceful and a great place to go to relax. If you travel with a dog, the host make your pet feel just as welcome and important as you. Loved sitting on the porch watching the family of deer graze and the butterflies then at light watching the field light up with the show that the lighting bugs put on. The cottage is absolutely charming and in a quiet location with lots of wildlife. We saw deer everyday and the views from the front porch were beautiful. Downtown Fredericksburg is a quick drive and when staying in Deer Ridge you're already more than 1/2 way to the wineries. The cottage is well stocked and has a lot of thoughtful touches such as dog toys, snacks, wine, bathrobes, etc. We loved Deer Ridge and are looking forward to our next trip.
