Find hotels in Eday from CA $88

The best area to stay in Eday is the central part of the island, particularly near the ferry terminal and the main amenities.

This area provides the most convenience for travellers, with easy access to services and transport links. Eday is a small, elongated island, and its central stretch, around the B9063 road, is where you'll find the shop, post office, and the island's primary pier at Broh. This makes it a practical base for exploring the island.

For couples looking for a tranquil escape, staying in the central area allows for easy access to the island's walking trails and its historic sites, such as the Stone of Setter and the Fold of Setter. It's a nice setting for enjoying the quiet beauty of the Orkney landscape and wildlife.

Families will also find this central location suitable, as being close to the ferry means less travel time upon arrival and departure.

The best time to visit Eday is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is at its mildest and the days are longest.

During this period, you'll experience the highest chance of sunshine and the least amount of rain, making it ideal for exploring the island's outdoor attractions. The longer daylight hours also mean more time for activities like hiking, birdwatching, and visiting historical sites such as the Stone of Setter and the remains of the Viking settlement at Braeside. This is particularly appealing for couples and solo travellers who enjoy outdoor pursuits and extended daylight for exploration.

Early autumn, specifically September, can also be a good option. While the days begin to shorten, the weather often remains pleasant, and the island is generally quieter after the main summer rush.
