The best area to stay in Desges is the historic town centre, particularly around the Place de l'Hôtel de Ville and the Rue des Forges.

This central area is the heart of Desges, characterised by its well-preserved medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and a relaxed pace. You'll find a selection of independent shops, traditional French restaurants, and cafes here. The town centre is quite compact, making it very walkable and easy to explore on foot.

Couples often find this area particularly appealing. It offers a romantic setting with its historic buildings and intimate dining spots. The proximity to the Desges Cathedral and the local market, which often takes place near the main square, adds to the experience for those looking for a quiet getaway.

For those seeking a bit more space and tranquillity, especially if travelling with family, the areas just outside the immediate town centre, but still within a 10-15 minute walk, are a good option. These areas, such as those near the Parc des Cèdres, often feature accommodations with gardens or more spacious rooms.

The best time to go to Desges is during the late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) when the weather is pleasant and the crowds are smaller.

Late spring offers mild temperatures, making it ideal for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the local markets. The countryside surrounding Desges is particularly beautiful at this time, with flowers in bloom. It's a lovely period for couples looking for a romantic escape, as they can enjoy scenic walks and al fresco dining without the peak summer rush.

Early autumn provides warm, sunny days but with cooler evenings, great for enjoying the local cuisine and wines. The changing colours of the leaves in the Auvergne region offer stunning backdrops for photography and leisurely drives.
