In an area known for natural beauty and abundant public lands, it can be your perfect base camp for all your adventures. The location is ideal for exploring the region’s riches, less than 30 minutes to almost everything the area has to offer from world class fishing, hiking, museums, history, gambling, great food, etc. It’s close enough that you don’t spend all your time driving, yet it feels like a world away. To get to the cabin, your picturesque drive winds through hillsides adorned with elk herds, horses, yaks, Huerfano cows, miniature donkeys and more. Then, a short one-mile drive on a maintained dirt road brings you to your mountain oasis where you are surrounded by towering trees and welcomed into the tranquility and serenity of the mountains. When you step inside, you are greeted by the rustic and somewhat quirky charm of the recently remodeled interior. Taking a cue from the numerous bear paw prints found in the snow when Paws in the Pines was first purchased, a theme developed. Embracing the wild spirit of Mother Nature’s mountain animals, each space is adorned with statues, wall hangings and pictures that pay homage to the diverse wildlife that call the mountains home. This delightful retreat is adorned with wildlife accents and cozy furnishings carefully curated for comfort and character. In a bit of whimsy, the animals are even named. Beautiful beetle killed blue stained pine are gorgeous feature walls in both the living room and bedroom where the focused lights highlight the unique character of the wood. Your first fire in the woodburning stove is prepared and waiting for you. Just light the fire and settle in. The flickering firelight will invite you to snuggle up with a good book, good drink and a good time. The well-appointed kitchen is equipped with everything needed to prepare your own special meal. The open floor plan allows cooking while still engaging with others, even watching the 55” smart television in the living room. A vintage lawyer’s bookshelf offers many books, games and puzzles to fill your quiet time, or stay connected with our high-speed satellite internet by Starlink. Our honeymoon in this cabin went so well, even if both of us weren't feeling the best! We had everything we needed, whether we were sick, desired to stay in, or travel the state. Jody and Dwight have thought of everything for their guests. We arrived after a long traffic detour on the road, to such a thoughtful birthday message and other treats. It was a perfect way to forget the traffic and start our long weekend of rest and indulgence. If you have a pup, they will be spoiled too. I have to say, Jody should be training other VRBO hosts. Jody and Dwight are the most amazing hosts. Check in was super easy, the home is incredible and it was very easy to communicate with them when needed. The home itself is perfect, you will lack for nothing while staying there. So many thoughtful details, like strategically placed nightlights, nice cookware, plenty of towels available, etc. We spent mornings enjoying our coffee on the back patio, and evenings gazing at the stars and occasionally hearing the wolves howl. It’s location is perfect, we did lots of great hiking, visited the fossil beds and the wolf center, took day trips to Victor, Cripple Creek and FairPlay. Like another reviewer said I almost don’t want anyone else to know about this place lol. But Jody and Dwight are fantastic and deserve to be blessed with many bookings so here I am leaving my honest, 5-star review :). ##### Stephanie C. This was by far, our best rental experience on any platform! The hosts were very communicative and understanding. The cabin was perfectly cozy for us and our dogs. They thought of everything! All the little touches and details helped us relax and enjoy our stay. Having a fully enclosed outdoor area was great for our pooches and our peace of mind. Jody is a great host and thought of so many extras! Our dog enjoyed the extras that were for her also.
