DESTINATION: LA CARBONERA, Salento, Colombia - Be one of the first to lay eyes on an unspoilt paradise! 

In Salento, Colombia there is a palm tree forest sitting at 3000 meters called "La Carbonera". People usually come to Salento to visit Valle de Cocora to see the 900 tallest palms in the world, however La Carbonera has 2 million palms making it the largest in the world and is entirely off of the radar, you won't find it on Google or in any guidebook.

La Carbonera has only been visited by 900 tourists since 2016. Only one tour company has permission to show people this beautiful valley. 20 years ago the entire region was occupied by rebel forces which has kept it off of the tourist route. 

 This is also the only place you can spot the yellow eared parrot, a bird species that was considered extinct in the 90s until later rediscovered in La Carbonera. 400 live in the area and can't be seen anywhere else in the world.

HOW TO GET THERE: @SalentoCycling are the only tour company that can take you there. The guys drive you to a view point with a delicious picnic. « We arrived early in the morning the day of our checkin and the staff was very accommodating, offering that we take a nap in hammocks, as we had travelled all night from Medellìn to get to Salento. Upon arrival, the breathtaking view of the surrounding nature is soothing and mesmerizing. Our room was clean and spacious. The staff was kind enough to rush breakfast service even though we got to the in-house restaurant a bit late for breakfast before beading to the Cocora Valley. At night, there are...

« C'est propre et le personnel est sympa. La chambre est spacieuse et la salle de bain est très bien aussi (chambre avec salle de bain privée). Hôtel bien situé au cœur de El Poblado. Mais sa situation dans ce quartier fait qu'il y a du bruit jusqu'au bout de la nuit. Il est collé aux boites de nuits et bars dansants et il est donc impossible de dormir. Du coup, si vous voulez vous reposer et vous lever tôt pour visiter la ville, je ne vous conseille pas cet hôtel. En revanche, si vous voulez...

"Nous n’avons pas séjourné a cet hotel, nous avons réservé 3 jours, mais pour raison de maladie, nous avons du annuler, nous n’avions pas pris l’annulation, la n’est pas vraiment le problème, nous avons essayé de contacter l’hotel, ils ne repondent pas, cet un message automatisé, ca s’est une honte quand tu travaille avec le tourisme ne pas daigner parler a sa clientèle ! J’ai par la suite ecrit un mail mais toujours aucunes reponses a ce jour,je leur ai expliqué la situation leur demandant de me prelever une nuit mais pas 3! En plus je les avisais a l’avance, ca du etre payant! Louer 2 fois la chambre! Je trouve que c’est faire part d’insensibilité, j’ai du faire la même démarche avec d’autres hôtels et j’ai eu de bonnes reponses! Alors pour moi cet hotel est une arnaque!"

"La chambre était très bien, seul bémol : le bruit, on entendait la cascade d'eau très fort dans la chambre car il n'y a pas de double vitrage aux fenêtres, très mauvaise isolation. Honnêtement le bruit était très fort, et ce, toute la journée, pour dormir c'était compliqué. Nous avons demandé à changer de chambre mais ils n'ont pas pu. Autrement le restaurant est bon, le petit déjeuner aussi."

"J'ai passé un très bon séjours dans cette hôtels, le lit était bon, la chambre propre, et surtout les propriétaires sont adorables, toujours très sympathique et prêt a vous aidé. Ce sont des gens biens, qui vous font vous sentir à l'aise. Je n'ai pas eu l'occasion de tester la piscine."
