A lovely quiet spot just right to break a long journey or to explore the often downgraded Pas de Calais. Lovely country side. The staff were great and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. We will be back for more.

Our 2nd stay here and it was even better than the 1st. Lovely room overlooking the stream and the food was delicious and the bar area cozy for an after dinner drink. Looking forward to our 3rd visit

Bags of charm in this quirky small hotel. Mill workings decorate the lobby, floors are somewhat uneven, but the character of the place and the idyllic remote location made us fall in love with it.

Quirky little hotel
My wife and I loved this hotel. We only stayed one night as an overnight stop on our way south - 45 minutes from Calais but much better than staying in the town as we usually do. Located in the countryside, a satnav was essential to find it, the beautiful little hotel was charming. Converted from a water mill with the race still flowing the hotel is definitely quirky with lots of uneven steps and different levels would make it difficult for someone unsteady on their feet or in a wheelchair, however it was fine for us. We were looking forward to a meal here as we had been told that the food was very good, unfortunately travel delays meant that we arrived too late but we bought a bottle of wine and had some bread and cheese in the garden and were perfectly satisfied. We will return and try the restaurant. Breakfast did not start until 8am and we had left by then; because of this we were disappointed that there was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. However, despite a few little disappointments we both slept soundly and enjoyed our one night and look forward to another visit.

Pros and Cons
In theory, this can’t fail – a mill in beautiful hiking country, close to the Channel Tunnel? Trouble is, although everyone is friendly and helpful, everything has a “but”. It’s well-positioned, with a garden, chairs and loungers , offset by midges etc from the slightly stagnant mill stream. Inside, the lounge also contains a sludge-filled open pool, so the property will always be slightly musty. Our room was spotless – but the bath, with shower fitting, had no curtain or wall mount, so the only way to shower was to squat – and very noisy plumbing for several rooms ran through the room. The laminate flooring didn’t quite fit and the tiling had been increased in increments, giving a feeling of a work in progress. On a hot day, there was the problem that the window leading onto a balcony accessed by three other rooms with doors could not be securely left open for ventilation. Dinner was quite reasonable, if not exciting, but a single chicken course plus one ice cream and a bottle of the cheapest wine doubled the price of the stay, making this less attractive for cheap hiking accommodation. Sadly, it never quite gels, and needs a master look and feel plan (with significant investment). The overall feeling is of an older transit camp where people sleep overnight, and the staff go (at 10pm) to wherever they call home. If you only want a place to sleep for one night at Calais, this is a reasonable offering, but (at the moment) I couldn’t recommend it for longer stays.

Gets better each time
Located on the edge of a national park, small and friendly auberge ideal for a night or two, as we have done on several occasions. Rooms comfortable and on this occasion with terrace access. Relaxed atmosphere, homely public areas, only music the sound of water through the mill race. Food good and local. Good value for money. Enjoyable stay.

Touring with a dog
We booked this hotel as it was dog friendly, its about the only thing it has going for it. It's really tierd and needs updating. The staff seemed bothered to have to check us in, no attempt show us the facilities or be hwlpful. We stayed in 12 hotels during our tour and this is the only one I wouldn't recommend.

A place to relax
A friendly welcome by the proprietor, comfortable rooms, easy parking, a beautiful setting and excellent food all made for a relaxing and affordable stay in this sympathetically converted water mill. Of special note was the evening meal of the highest standard, prepared by the La Chef (owners wife). The rural setting, despite unseasonably chilly weather afforded us with a chance to walk in the village and enjoy the stay to the full.

Lovely Stay
We believe that this small hotel has had some problems in the past, caused by a manager (now gone). The hotel is in a beautiful quiet spot and though the rooms are basic they are comfortable and very clean. The staff (owners) are so friendly and helpful, they make you feel immediately at home. Though we arrived late and their kitchen was closed, they still russled up a wonderful light meal with very nice wine in support. We would certainly return and would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a country side retreat.

Ok if you get a good deal!
If you're not going to eat at the Inn it is a little out of the way. We didn't eat there but the restaurant seemed busy. We found the survise generally non-existent. Cheap laminate flooring throughout means you hear everything passing in the hall ways, etc.. The room is clean however and if you can find the staff they are helpful. Have stayed in France a lot, wasn't expecting luxury but overall felt quite disappointed. Certainly no good if you have an acoustic-bladder condition as the sound of the water running pass the Inn is like having an old water tank filling up above the bed all night!!!

Lovely Hotel
Wasn't sure what to expect as it has recieved some bad reviews. Got a very warm welcome when I arrived after a very long drive from the Loire. Shown to my room which overlooked the Mill race. Room was clean and well maintained if basic. Nice bathroom with shower attachment over the bath. Linen fresh and in good condition. I had booked dinner and it was superb. Limited menu but very well cooked and tasty. Didnt take breakfast as I had to leave early for Calais to catch the ferry. Will definatly be booking again for overnight stay next year.

Only 30 minutes from the Euro Tunnel!
This is our third stay at this wonderful little Auberge, run by new owners Catherine and her husband, this has to be one of the best hotels stays on your way to or from Calais. Food and service are first class and the location is stunning. Our labrador thought she had found her "forever home" with a stream and ford at the front door! Could easily have spent two weeks here instead of just a stop-over before the tunnel...

No one home!!!
We arrived at the Auberge at about 6pm expecting to be able to get changed and have a nice meal after our long journey up from the Loir. Expedia had confirmed our booking and had sent me a reminder e-mail on the day, but when we arrived we found the hotel locked up, curtains drawn, an empty car park and nobody around. We tried phoning the hotel but nobody answered. We hung around for about 30 to 40 mins in the hope that somebody might turn up but to no avail. As you can imagine we were rather upset and annoyed and now found ourselves stranded in France with no where to stay before our crossing the next day. We had to drive into Calais to try and find somewhere else to stay. Fortunately we were able to do so, but it cost us over double the price it would have cost at the Auberge. We are still waiting for an explanation as to why the hotel had confirmed our booking but was closed!

Great old building full of character
This ancient water mill where water still races through the centre of the building is situated in a beautiful valley, in a sleepy little village. The building is an old one, and although converted one must recognise that it is an historic building not modern hotel. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, with good beds and ensuite facilities. There are not the most modern facilities such as tv in the room etc but that is not the nature of the place. the staff were accomodating and friendly. if you want a great break in a beautiful valley in a charming old building this is the place for you.

Well it was alright. The room was clean and the beds were comfy but bigger pillows would have been nice. It was useful to have the extra blankets. Bathroom was "sad", old worn out towels and no where to hang wet ones and no bath mat, couldn't run a bath through the tap as the adjuster leaver wouldn't work so had to fill it through the shower. That wasn't a problem really, but it just took time. Empty loo roll still in place and no glasses for night time water. The service was OK. Breakfast was fine, but didn't rate the evening meal. And a bit too much music! Slight lack of attention to detail, but do hope that they survive as it is in a nice location and it just about did the job for us. Not sure whether we will go back though unless they up their game.

Oh Dear!
This hotel has got it so wrong on so many levels.. and that's just the floor! It is set in a fairly remote location. but ideal as a first or last night of a trip to France. The Moulin is an old water mill, which has not been carefully restored. Bathroom small with patio doors (?) beside the toilet (on the first floor) .. in fact so close to the toilet you are touching the curtains when using the loo! The room was cold, but a heater provided, and damp. Mixer tap, sink plug, shaver socket didn't work. Menu seemed ok, but was generally tasteless, main courses served with over-cooked carrots and green beans. Absolutely no ambiance. The bar lights turned off at 10pm. Limited drinks. Breakfast fine, but 2 days in a row we ate breakfast without seeing a member of staff. The place needs a good re-furb, and staff/owners who are not afraid to speak to guests. Such a shame as it could be fantastic.

Rural Retreat
A quaint quiet and quintessentially French tavern in a very attractive rural location, yet just 30 minutes from Boulogne and Calais. A very comfortable room, good sized bath in a spacious bathroom, plenty of towels and toiletries. Both evening meal and breakfast of good quality and sufficient quantity. Service slow and had to be sought out, but pleasant when received. Part of the charm is the apparent lack of TV, WiFi, neon signs etc., Good value and recommended for a night or a short stay base.

A big disappointment
We arrived at 8.30pm and was told last orders were at 8pm and the chef had gone. At 9pm in the kitchen I saw main meals being prepared. Later other guest told me they had been warned to arrive by 8.30 to eat but had got their earlier. We had some bread and chesse in our room taken from our car. There was no offer to provide us anything although we had travelled 1000km from Austria and had not eaten all day. It promises to be a quirky quaint chraming place. It totally lacked any warmth or welcome. I don't think they could be bothered to provide any customer service to us on our arrival. Next time I will not be bothered to stay at this place. I now read it has recently changed hands. Don't go is my advice there are plenty of better places to stay.

Ideal location only 40 minutes from Calais. Great setting - an old mill. Staff friendly, little bar - didnt eat in the restaurant. Rooms ok - very basic, shower on bath tap and you had to hold it.. No wifi, no tv in room, no hair dryer.Recommend it - not for us - I expected more from an Auberge however on the plus side it does have a restaurant and a little bar.
