The path to the outside garden area had an area that looked very unsightly with rubbish and various other items. Great hotel...thought it was pretty cool that it's the oldest inn in England. We had dinner at the hotel one night and food and service was very good. Breakfast also delicious and made to order!! The location is very convenient to shopping and other restaurants. There is not hotel parking available, but paid parking is nearby. Our room was on the second floor and no lift in the hotel. A staff member carried our bags up the stairs for us. The hotel is very old and quaint, however, a lot of the decor looked very tired and worn out. Couldn't tell if it was tired or just needed a good cleaning. The bathroom was not equipped well. No tissues or wash clothes. Window shade in the room was not working well. Bed was comfortable and sheets seemed fine. The access to the room was difficult because of some very narrow and low ceiling stairs. Staff wasn't overly friendly and they seemed frazzled and under staffed. It was truly a pleasure to stay at England’s oldest inn. We loved our room, the history and the restaurant. We brought our dog as well, and it was just such a lovely weekend.
