Depending on where you’re coming from, your flight to Longhai could be completely painless or it could drag on forever. We've put together some tips that will help you start your next great escape on a positive note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• The secret to having an awesome flight experience is to pack in advance. So, let's start with the essentials: passport, boarding pass, cash and medications. Next, take on board items that'll help keep you entertained, like some electronic gadgets or a good book. You'll also want to pack your chargers, a quality neck pillow and a pair of earphones. Last but not least, be sure to pop in toiletry items like a toothbrush, deodorant and a fresh set of clothes.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) will be confiscated. Sharp objects, like your precious pocket knife, and dangerous products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and matches, are also banned.

What to wear on a flight:

• Your aim is to feel as comfortable as possible. Opt for flat, closed-toe shoes, dress in loose, natural-fibre clothing and remember to bring a sweater in case you get cold in the cabin.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

The secret is to be organized before you reach airport security. That way, you'll be stepping onto that plane to Longhai in a flash. Follow these tips and get your trip off to a great start:

• First things first. Your boarding pass and passport will need to be inspected by security personnel. Keep them someplace accessible so you don't hold up the queue.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, coat, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• Your electronic gadgets like phones and laptops will also need to go on a tray for inspection. No need to worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Travelling with your favourite perfume or cologne? No problem. As long as the volume is no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, it's fine to bring with you in your carry-on luggage.
• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you several valuable minutes. Boots and heavy shoes are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Lightweight sneakers are usually not.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
