Welcome to Saint Philip Square, an award-winning collection of historic homes spanning nearly one city block of downtown Charleston. The Alexander Wilson House at 178 Unit C Saint Philip St. is a 3-bed 4-bath gem blending modern comfort with Charleston’s rich history just one block from King St. Recognized with 5 Carolopolis Awards and the SC Governor’s Award for Historic Restoration, this retreat offers a perfect location for families or groups seeking an authentic Charleston experience.

*There is a spiral staircase leading upstairs- Can be an issue for anyone with mobility issues*

Bedrooms: 3 With Optional 4th
1: This beautiful Charleston room has intricate woodwork and moldings and can function as a living room or a 4th bedroom. It features a queen Murphy bed, ensuite bath, roomy closets, large double doors that make this room function fully as a bedroom.
2: Queen size bed, private ensuite bathroom, end tables, reading lamps.
3: Two single beds with ensuite bath, heart pine flooring, The dormer rooms use a charming spiral staircase which may not be suitable for all guests.
4: Two Twins with ensuite bath, wide heart pine flooring. The spiral steps may not work for all, but the views over the rooftops are spectacular.

Beautiful, classic Charleston living room with high ceilings, fireplace and mantle, heart pine floors with large windows and natural light.
Our flexible floor plan offers options for use as a bedroom or a double sitting room.

Bath 1: Private ensuite marble and tile bath with deluxe shower head, separate handheld shower, glass shower door.
Bath 2: Private bath with soaking tub and shower, rain shower head.
Bath 3: Private ensuite bath with marble floor, private water closet, shower with rain head shower and separate handheld shower.
Bath 4: Private ensuite bath, old heart pine flooring, separate shower.

This is not a typical short-term rental; it is not a renovated dependency or a newly constructed unit in an old neighborhood, nor is it situated on a tiny lot in a questionable or remote area. The old hardwood floors, tall ceilings, original moldings, plasterwork, windows, and doors exude a special warmth, character, and charm that is very difficult to achieve in new construction. The exterior copper roof and guttering provide additional warmth and character. It's the real deal!

Great family stay in a charming historic home. The unit appeared to be very well cleaned and maintained. We loved the highly walkable area and found some great restaurants and coffee shops within a few blocks. One thing to note is that two of the bedrooms are upstairs in the former attic level, so the beds have low head clearance and the bathrooms are small. We did have two adults successfully sleep up there, but felt those bedrooms would be best suited for children. One note for the host is that we would have appreciated optional plug-in air fresheners since (like all historic southern homes) it can smell a bit musty in the summer. Would happily stay again.

The tub in the main bedroom/bathroom is very slippery and dangerous. The stove in kitchen will turn on if you are at sink if you bump it. It happened 3 times while we were there. Very dangerous.Third floor is very difficult to access with luggage.

Great girls weekend!

I came on a girls weekend with 6 women. Everyone loved the place...plenty of room for 6 with 4 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms plus extra beds. It was quirky and quaint with all the ammenities we needed, plus lots of thoughtful extras. Our favorite spot to gather was the front porch. Location was great too, just far enough out of the hustling downtown area, but within walking distance to the market, harbor area, and plenty of great restaurants! Would definitely stay here again.

Clean and comfortable

My friends and I had a great girls' weekend at St. Philip Square. The place was immaculately clean, beds comfortable, and plenty of bathrooms! There is a spiral staircase, fyi. Well-situated near King St. and many restaurants and cafes. We were able to walk everywhere. Good communication with property manager, even when we had a hard time with the code getting in (user error!).

Beautiful location - close to everything!

A group of 5 of us were in town to celebrate a 50th birthday. We loved the house and Jaime went above and beyond to accommodate us. The beds were so comfortable! We loved that they had shampoo, conditioner and body wash in the showers. The kitchen had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this property. My only hesitation would be for anyone 'of size' or with limited mobility staying upstairs. The spiral stairs were a bit of a challenge for a couple people in our group with ankle/knee issues. But there are plenty of beds and two full baths on the main floor which gives you lots of choices! We loved this spot and highly recommend staying here - it's clean, quiet, comfortable & close to everything!

Charleston Weekend with Friends

This place was perfect for our group of 7 girlfriends in town for the Charleston Wine and Food Festival. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, and the visitor's center where we caught our shuttle out to the Village. We enjoyed the courtyard and fire pits after a long day. I highly recommend to those looking for comfort, convenience and have the physical ability to climb stairs.

Perfect location and size!

We had a great weekend and the house was very clean. The location was walking distance to everything we wanted. Parking is a challenge if you have more than one car but there is a garage nearby. Definitely would stay again!

Great Location

Great location, just a block off of King St. Loads of local spots for coffee, happy hour or lunch/dinner. Walk to most areas easily. The accommodations are a bit small for 5 adults as the 4th bedroom is actually the living room. Plenty of outside seating. Washer/dryer and grill are shared with several other units. Would still book again.

Fun With Friends

We had plenty of space to sit around and chat which was our #1 goal. Kitchen was fabulous. Beds were a hit with great mattresses and sheets. A couple of things to note... 1. Light in bathroom in the murphy bed room doesn't work. pretty dark. 2. No lights on the front of the unit to mark our place so was very difficult to find it. Plus the "1" is missing in 178. 3. The sink in that same bathroom (as mentioned above) the water did not get hot. 4. The bathroom with the sink in the window upstairs needs a light. Hard to put on makeup. These are not deal breakers by any means but just thought you should know. We will still recommend this place to our friends and family.

A perfect girls trip!

There were seven of us and we all wanted to have our own beds to sleep in. There was plenty of rooms, beds, and bathrooms so we were able to hangout yet have our own spaces to get ready. It is a really cute place with a great porch to hang out in. it’s right on the heart of things so we often just walked to restaurants and shopping. it was totally safe and we were never nervous about walking back late at night. The contact person was extremely responsive and even accommodated us checking in early age checking out later! Great stay!

Definitely Recommend

Pretty smooth process renting this property. The unit was nicely decorated and very clean. The pictures do it justice. Just be aware that there is one bedroom on the first floor and a Murphy bed in the living room. Two other bedrooms are up a spiral stair case. The two upstairs rooms have twin beds. And the bathrooms are tight. Amenities were perfect too. Oh and the outdoor space or piazza was great as well. Definitely recommend!

Lovely stay

We were 5 friends in a book club traveling together. The home was beautiful, very clean, with comfortable beds, and convenient to everything. Just one block off King Street, there are many restaurants and bars within a couple blocks. The historic area is only about 1 mile away-an easy walk or Lyft trip. There was some street noise, so bring ear plugs and/or make use of the 2 white noise machines. We enjoyed the piazza (porch) for coffee and tea in the mornings and loved Maya and The Grocery for dinner. I would definitely stay here again.
