The staff and the food were exceptional.
My room was very nice good Wi-Fi lovely breakfast evening meal was absolutely brilliant.
But I had a room on the front of the building and the road noise is absolutely terrible. If I was on the back of the building it may have been better. Some secondary glazing would be a must.

Cosy comfortable room, good facilities and nice staff. Very satisfied all round.
This hotel is housed in a beautiful, centuries old building with remarkable charm; you'll feel transported to medieval England in a very good way. However, the age of the building does come with some negatives; the stairs to my room (2) were quite steep, and the room itself was just big enough to house the king size bed within it.
Additionally, the walls are quite thin, so you'll hear activity from the restaurant below until about 11pm, and potentially later from adjacent rooms (I could clearly hear my neighbour snoring!).
None of this was an issue for me, as I sleep late and heavy, but I imagine it could be serious for some.
What made the trip worth it however was the food; oh the food! I travel for work and pleasure easily 50+ times a year, and I can honestly say that it's difficult to remember a time I've had better food than this. The chef(s) offer a perfect combination of rustic Britishness with European refinement, and powerful flavours to bring it all home. Honestly, even if the rest of my stay had been a 3 star experience, I would've returned again just 5o experience their culinary delights once more.
To briefly summarise; I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to food lovers, but advise caution for light sleepers (though they do provide complimentary earplugs).

Fabulous!!
Fabulous! A charming little hotel with great food and very accomodating staff.
Pub is a lovely place to stay, the room i had was small but well equipped and perfectly good for the duration of my stay. The shower was cracking! .. The a la carte menu was not my thing but the food did look really nice. I would stay again if working that way again.
Comfortable bed and pillows - lovely building, friendly staff. Room and bathroom TINY! And steep twisty stairs to get to it - our room was certainly not suitable for everyone so perhaps put a “steep, tight, twisty stairs access” advice to some rooms ?
This is a very clean and comfortable hotel. The food and drinks are too notch but the highlight is the excellent staff, every one of them.

The accommodation at The Dog is just average. Rooms need refreshing and updating with everything looking faded and dated. For £200/night, we expected something special and all we got was dull and ordinary. However, the food - both dinner (extra) and breakfast (included) was outstanding, with good service. Next time I’d stay somewhere else and just eat at The Dog.
Homely place with great service and excellent food
Late stay based on a personal recommendation. I am annoyingly picky by nature but was pleasantly surprised. The room is well formed and comfortable. The restaurant is very inviting and the food...outstanding. It is clear the venue values its patrons and a lot of thought goes into ensuring quality. The staff make the experience. Would 100% recommend.
