'Casa Escola Velha' was, as the name suggests, the old school house in the small town of Loreto.
Loreto is famous for its many regional festivals with flower-covered streets and the 'Espedata' meat skewers grilled over an open fire, a specialty of Madeira Island.
The building, formerly the schoolhouse of Loreto, was adapted as a holiday home and renovated with great attention to detail.
This made it possible to reconcile the special flair of the old stone house with a modern design and modern technology.
The stone construction creates a special indoor climate inside the house
pleasantly cool in summer and warm in winter.
Particular attention was paid to a high level of living comfort and functional furnishings.
Whether a week or two months, a stay at 'Casa Escola Velha' will be a feel-good vacation!
Should an evening be cooler in the winter months, the house naturally has an electric heater!
On the ground floor, a well-equipped kitchen with gas / electric cooker, fridge / freezer, microwave / grill, coffee machine, toaster, kettle and dishwasher.
In the living room a cozy seating area, a comfortable sofa with reading corner, international cable TV, German programs via satellite. DVD player and free unlimited internet access via W-LAN.
A staircase leads from the living room to the 1st Floor, here you will find a lovingly furnished bedroom with a double bed and a view of the endless Atlantic.
A dressing table and enough space for your wardrobe are a matter of course.
Furthermore, on the first floor there is a spacious bathroom with a bathtub, an extra shower, washing machine, drying rack and towel dryer.
From the bedroom there are also 2 stairs down to the garden, which is protected by Solandra and Buganvilla.
In the garden itself, Rien relic, palm trees, protea, lots of flowers, bananas and cacti as well as an herb bed with fresh seasonal herbs.
A well-equipped barbecue, garden furniture, parasol and sun loungers are a matter of course.
A private parking space for 2 cars is located directly behind the house.
The house is in a quiet location, just a 1-minute walk from the town center with a bar, cafe, pizzeria / Italian restaurant, mini market / bakery, bank and taxi rank. Depending on the catch, fresh fish is offered in the morning by the local fishermen. Only about 7 minutes drive away is the main town of Calheta with 'Calheta Beach' the most beautiful sandy beach on the island, a supermarket, restaurants, fish restaurants and a harbor promenade with bars, shops and the possibility of boat tours with whale watching along the fascinating south coast of Madeira.
Also worth seeing, the Casa das Mudas Museum, with great architecture and art exhibitions, like the old rum factory, once a year an island-typical Aquardente is made from sugar cane from the area
'Casa Escola Velha' is also ideal for hiking tours, the next Levada hiking trail crosses the road to the Paul da Serra plateau approx. 1 km above the house and can also be reached on foot in a short time. The plateau itself is the starting point for countless hikes by car in about 10 minutes. The road continues via Fanal and Ribeira da Janela through laurel forests to Porto Moniz, the northwesternmost point of Madeira. From here continue along the old road to the lighthouse of Ponta Pargo, the westernmost point. From here, a new expressway leads along the towns of Faja da Ovelha and Prazeres back to Calheta.
