Top Bives Hotel Reviews

Hotel College des Doctrinaires, BW Premier Collection

10/10 Excellent

"Very pleasant place"

Boutique farmhouse sleeps 20 indoor pool and outdoor pool, jacuzzi, tennis, AC

10/10 Excellent

"We had such a lovely week staying at Jemma's house. We were a multi generational group of 17, ages 1 -90 and the house suited everyone perfectly - One bedroom being on the ground floor was perfect for grandparents and there were stair gates and everything we'd need for a baby too. The house itself is lovely and had great areas for everyone to sit together in, which we find hard to find when renting houses for a larger group like ours.Jemma and Ann were quick to deal with any issues that arose and helpful with any recommendations in the local area. We'd definitely recommend the house and will definitely be back in the future I'm sure!"

PROMO August 16th century Gascon Castle in the Gersoise hills

10/10 Excellent

"This was a family reunion/holiday and the property was perfect for us. We had wide range of ages from grandparents, teens and young children and everyone loved being here. There is plenty of space for everyone to do their thing but also areas to come together. Well equipped kitchen was great for cooking for lots of people. Yves was an excellent host and made sure we had everything we needed. The pool was a big hit with the younger children and the hot tub with the teens! We would absolutely visit again."

Gîte de groupe, 37 places, 13 rooms

8/10 Good

"We had a wonderful week in La Romieu and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The location is beautiful: peaceful, full of character and surrounded by stunning countryside. La Romieu and nearby places such as Condom are well worth exploring. The property is fantastic for a large group. There were 28 of us and we made some brilliant memories here. The pool, outdoor space and setting make it a very special place. There are some areas for improvement. Our main concern was damaged tiles around the pool, which we discussed with the owner and were told would be repaired. Some sun loungers would also be a welcome addition. There were a few minor maintenance issues, but nothing that spoiled our holiday. Our main disappointment came after leaving. We received upsetting messages about cleaning and were initially told we had not paid the 280 cleaning fee. Our receipt confirmed we had, which the owner later acknowledged. We accept guests should leave a property respectfully and genuinely believed we had done so. With 28 people staying for a week, a few minor things may have been overlooked, but clearer departure instructions would have avoided much of the misunderstanding. To her credit, the owner acknowledged communication could have been clearer. Also check bedding and towel arrangements before travelling, as these cost extra.Overall, a beautiful property in a wonderful part of France. With improved communication and some maintenance, this would have been a 10/10 stay."

Large, completely renovated country house with swimming pool

10/10 Excellent

"A superb property in a very rural location. The house was spotless and a perfect size for our group of 15 (8 adults and 7 children aged between 6 and 13).The pool is beautiful and a great size to allow for proper swimming as well as the splashy games for the kids. The kitchen and communal areas both inside and out are really spacious and there is more than enough seating for everyone. The outside space is outstanding with a quieter shaded area by to pool and the addition of the patio cover is brilliant.Communication with the hosts was great and although we didn’t need anything while we were there, the information provided was excellent. It was really hot while we were there and there is A/C in the upstairs rooms where the children were sleeping. However the whole house was cool throughout even in the rooms without A/C as long as windows and shutters were closed during the day and open at night. I can’t fault this property, it is beautifully renovated and has everything you could possibly need for a fabulous family holiday. We have stayed in many properties in France over the last 30 years and I can easily say that this was the best we have ever rented."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bives?

The best area to stay in Bives is the town centre, particularly around the Place de la Liberté.

This area is the heart of Bives, offering a blend of historic architecture and convenient access to local amenities. You'll find a pedestrian-friendly layout with a market square, several cafes, and independent shops. The Bives Cathedral is a prominent landmark, and the narrow streets emanating from the square are pleasant for a stroll.

For couples seeking a relaxing break, the town centre is ideal. You're within easy walking distance of quality restaurants, wine bars, and cultural sites like the Bives Museum. Many of the boutique hotels here offer a personal touch and often feature views of the historic buildings.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the town centre's convenience. Everything you need is close by, from morning coffee to evening meals.

When is the best time to go to Bives?

The best time to go to Bives is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

During these months, the weather is typically mild and sunny, ideal for exploring the rolling countryside and medieval villages without the intense heat of summer. You'll find the vineyards are particularly picturesque in spring as they burst into life, or in autumn with their rich, harvest colours. This period also offers a more relaxed experience, as the main tourist rush hasn't yet begun or has already ended.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and cycling, these shoulder seasons are perfect. The trails are less busy, and the temperatures are comfortable for longer excursions.
