IF YOU LIKE TO SLEEP AT, SAY, 4:30AM, AVOID THIS MOTEL!
· The location close to downtown Bar Harbor is good, and, while the motel is clearly somewhat dated, the staff keep it clean.
· We had specifically asked for a quiet room. We were placed on the ground floor, with one floor above us. Noise reduction between the levels in this motel building is practically non-existent and the motel stuff must be aware of this. For this reason, I consider the entire lower floor of this motel non-functional for the purpose of renting rooms out to vacationers who consider appropriate amounts of sleep a part of their vacation. The neighboring guests above us had a preference to get up at 4:30AM one night, and 5:30AM the second night, which means we heard every single one of their steps, and they happened to walk around in their room for HOURS. After the first night, we brought this to the attention of the staff (no other rooms were available because the motel was fully booked, presumably due to the MDI Marathon weekend) and were told they would speak with the neighbors. However, this is not so much an issue of different preferences, but of the construction of the building. I don't think I am supposed to hear when someone above me simply walks through their room! Through the early time preferences of these neighbors, we got very little sleep in this motel, which significantly devalued the entire stay for us. The staff at checkout time (Eric) was not receptive to any discussion about price
