Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Auxelles-Bas?
The best area to stay in Auxelles-Bas is within the village itself, particularly around the church and mairie (town hall), as this offers the most convenient access to local amenities and the surrounding natural beauty.

Auxelles-Bas is a small, quiet village located in the foothills of the Vosges mountains. The heart of the village is compact, with the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste as a central landmark and the Mairie nearby. The main road, Rue de la Mairie, runs through the village, connecting the few local businesses and residential properties. It's an area designed for those seeking a tranquil escape into nature.

Couples looking for a peaceful retreat will find Auxelles-Bas ideal. The village offers direct access to numerous walking and cycling paths, superb for exploring the regional natural park. You can enjoy quiet evenings, perhaps with a view of the surrounding forests and hills, making it a superb base for outdoor activities and relaxation away from larger towns.

For families, staying within Auxelles-Bas provides a calm and friendly environment. Children can enjoy the open spaces and the fresh air, with plenty of opportunities for walks and picnics in the nearby countryside.
When is the best time to go to Auxelles-Bas?
The best time to go to Auxelles-Bas is during the late spring (May to June) or early autumn (September to October) for pleasant weather and fewer crowds.

These shoulder seasons offer a good balance of comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the surrounding countryside and engaging in outdoor activities like hiking or cycling. You'll find the vineyards are particularly picturesque during these months, either budding with new growth or vibrant with autumnal colours.

Summer (July and August) is also a popular time, with warmer weather superb for enjoying the region's lakes and outdoor markets. However, it's also the busiest period, so you might encounter more visitors and higher prices for accommodation and activities.
