Inside an old fort which was cool. Right on ocean so an amazing view from rooms. Staff spoke English well. Restaurant was very good.

The old fort is very cool and the staff was amazing. Bar and restaurant were a good value. Easy walk down to the harbor then up to the city. My only issue with the property was the bed. Not the most comfortable mattress and on a cheap wooden frame that sticks out too far. Jammed my toe three separate time.

This hotel was beautiful. The property was very clean. The rooms were great. The breakfast was a 10/10. The dinner was great. The hotel staff was friendly and super helpful as this was our first time to the island, they gave us tons of info of where to go to eat/shop/etc. I cannot wait to go back.

A Wonderful Experience
Our experience as Pousada de Angra do Heroismo was excellent. It was amazing to stay in the original building within this 16th century fortress. All of the staff were warm and welcoming throughout our stay. Service was excellent! Breakfast had many offerings - all fresh and delicious. Dinner was wonderful!!!

This is a beautiful location. Oceanfront views and historic building. We loved the buffet breakfast. The staff are all so pleasant and helpful. We have stayed before and will stay again. Free parking. Easy walk to the city.

A well balanced, overall hotel experience!
Clean, friendly, historic, & well situated near the heart of the city, with an abundance of great food both in the establishment & nearby. Angra do Heroísmo provides one of the few cultural & "metropolitan" opportunities on the islands & the hotel proved to be a great "jumping off" point for these endeavors. My only negative critique of the hotel is that they need to modernize & update the actual rooms to keep up with the tech-savvy reality that the modern traveler both needs & expects. Nevertheless, I recommend turning off most of all the electronics at the first opportunity & indulging in the history that this hotel represents.

Wonderful Hotel!!
This hotel was incredible and we loved our stay here! It's built into an old historic fort which is very cool. It also has free parking and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Fell short of expectations
THE GOOD: 눇It's a beautiful property, and it's fun to stay in an old fort with such character. The staff was amazing, the WiFi is fast, parking is easy, and the breakfast buffet was excellent. THE BAD: In the older building where I stayed, there was no lift; it wasn't easy to lug my 50-pound suitcase up those stairs. The staff left me a fruit tray in my room--a nice gesture, but I honestly have no idea how long it had been there, and in the heat the entire room reeked of fruit. The bathroom window could not be completely shut and there was no screen, so my room had several flying insects in it. The bed was stiff and rickety. Also, the hotel is on a hill. Walking to town is pretty easy because it's mostly downhill, but walking back up is a little strenuous. There is a "bar" but it's not continually staffed--the bartender also works in the restaurant across the way. There is a pool but it was not heated. I could have forgiven all of these things, but not this one: the water heater took up to 10 minutes to warm the water. I was told this is "normal" because the heater is on the other side of the property, and if you were the first one to shower in the morning (or late in the evening), you had to wait. I gave up on two occasions trying to take a shower because I was in a hurry. There must be better hotels to stay in Angra, but be sure to walk around the fort property because it's a sight by itself.

Hats off to the cleaning stuff. Every day we left clothes and things all over the room and every day we come back from our outing, things are all nicely tidied up and clothes folded. We haven’t had that kind of service for a long time. Front desk stuff is very friendly.

Would definitely stay hear again
Absolutely fantastic hotel! Beautiful setting with amazing view of the ocean,where else in the world can you look out your room (112) window and see dolphins in the bay , breakfast very good with large selection, room very large as was the bathroom, beautiful and clean with everything you need, fantastic staff , special mention for Pedro , overall a fantastic hotel on a beautiful peace full island 😀

Staff is the best!
This hotel is charming, set in a fort on the bay of Terceira. But the staff, from Catria, Flavio and Christine on the desk, to the young women cleaning rooms to the kitchen and bar staff are the heart of this stay. If you want to take tours, you can schedule them online. But if you want the details and the best deals, ask your personal travel consultants at the front desk. Your plans will be made, confirmed, transportation arranged for you, with a smile. You will be greeted on your return. There is no problem these people cannot help you with.

From the point you arrive and Reception onwards you can tell this is a quality hotel in a rather unique location, that is, within a small fort (compared with the large and active one opposite, by Monte Brasil). The architects have worked hard and creatively doing an outstanding job in integrating modern architecture with this part state controlled, part Pestana (Pousadas) structure. There are even two discreet swimming-pools. The rooms are well-appointed and very comfortable, excellent beds good shower, amenities, and pretty fast wi-fi. Breakfast was substantial and included a lot of good local Azorian produce (cheeses, bread, sweets). There is also a designer split-level bar area opposite reception. Free parking outside the fort- a bonus- as Angra generally charges for parking. The chef at the Forte de Sao Sebastiao works some wonders. Good food, beautifully and classily presented. If you are there for a Fado music (food and wine) do not miss out on this. It is a must. Very professionally run. The staff, Fernanda on Reception, Lobelia and Luis in the restaurant are attentive, efficient and prompt. The one small gripe was that although it is a Pousada it is a Franchise and you don't get Pestana Priority Discounts or points.

One of a kind hotel
Hotel built inside a fortress. Absolutely stunning architecture blend of the old and new. Staff very helpful and restaurant food is very good. Beautiful sunset view from the hotel as it is on a cliff. We had dinner under the stars and it was an amazing experience. Short walk to the Marina and town. A definitely unique hotel to stay.

Classic fort with all modern amenities
The Pousada in the old Forte de Sao Sebastiao is amazing, they have built an ultramodern hotel inside the walls of one of the main forts guarding the harbor. It looks out to sea from the restaurant and the swimming pool. The service in the restaurant was great. For example, they only had cold milk out, but a waiter foamed up some leite quente for me every morning. Dinner and bar service was outstanding, and the staff very helpful. If you have your own car, that overcomes the one drawback, is that you are a hilly walk away from the historic center and other street life.

So close yet so far
This is a gorgeous property in an excellent location close to the town center...about a ten minute walk. The room was very nice. There was only one issue which ended up being pretty significant. Our air conditioner did not work for our entire stay. What is just as disappointing is how it was handled. Immediately as we noticed it was not working the hotel staff came to the room and verified it did not work and simply stated they were sorry. No suggestion that another room may be available no suggestion as to how it may be fixed or when it may be fixed just that they were sorry and that I should tell the staff the next day that it doesn't work. The next day I was told that we were the only one who had complained of this and they would try to see if something could be fixed. When my wife and I spoke with all of the other guests at breakfast it turns out that none of them had air conditioning as well. I was disappointed that we had been lied to and that this was clearly a hotel wide is shoe that was not likely to have been rectified anytime soon. This wouldn't be a huge deal except when we slept with the window open the winds were so high that IT band the metallic shutters on the balcony all night long so we achieved extremely little sleep. It really is disappointing because the primary function of a hotel is to be able to go somewhere to sleep and it's a shame that we couldn't achieve this because so many other aspects of the hotel are just excellent.

The Pousada was much as expected from other reviews. The staff was friendly and helpful, the location beautiful and convenient. Only complaints were that the bed (queen?) was uncomfortably hard and the coffee at breakfast tasted like instant (which it probably was). Ask for an expresso if you want coffee.
