PLEASE READ OUR ENTIRE LISTING DESCRIPTION SO YOU UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE RENTING...THANK YOU. CRIME AND SAFETY; \*\*\*Many people ask, "Is the island safe?" The answer is extremely safe. Unlike many other islands in the Caribbean there is zero violent crime against tourists. There can be very rare petty theft and that is about it. Women traveling alone can feel totally safe even at night. GENERAL INFORMATION; \*\*\*We have an incredible 20+ page Trip Planner document that gives tips on everything from; SUV rentals and travel tips to the best restaurants and beaches and everything in between. Most guests find that document to be invaluable for a great trip. \*\*\*We have a great SUV rental guy who gives all of our guests great deals because we send him so much business. We also have the best tour/fishing guide in the Bahamas. He specializes in the swimming pigs, all sorts of fishing and spearfishing trips, lobstering, sea turtles, sand bars, rope swings, etc. Like our car rental guy he takes of our guests also. We have been using both guys exclusively since since 2016 and they treat our guests like gold. \*\*\*Bahamian owned - we do the booking for them. So the cool thing is that your funds go right into the local economy, not in the pockets of a foreign investor. Eleuthera is generally a fairly poor island and that is a BIG deal for their economy. Owner rents kayaks, body boards, snorkel gear, etc, to guests at a great price also. \*\*\*Please note we do not accept any pets, emotional, support or therapy animals due to extreme allergies/health related issues in our family. WHO WE ARE AS HOSTS; We have been VRBO/HomeAway Premier Hosts since 2016 and have many thousands of reviews for our 20+ properties in multiple locations and countries. Our average review rating is 4.95 stars average out of 5.0 stars. We always respond to any guests concerns immediately and have a well seasoned staff in every location. For example this cottage, the owner lives right next door as does his sister so if you need anything they are right there. LOCATION; We are located in the settlement known as Hatchet Bay (also called Alice Town). That puts us between the settlements of Rainbow Bay to the south and Gregory Town to the north. Our town is safe and you can walk around day or night securely. It is a local Bahamian settlement which is really cool since you will be mingling with the friendly locations instead of the visiting tourists. The locals are warm and friendly and wave and chat. You will experience the real Bahamas which most guests love - the unique cultural experience. We are located about 90 minutes from Rock Sound Airport, 18 minutes from Governor's Harbor Airport and 35 minutes from North Eleuthera Airport. Eleuthera ia 110 miles long and half a mile wide and being in the right location is very important for a great trip, otherwise you are in for a lot of driving on bad roads with very expensive gas prices. Our location is centrally located and perfect for exploring both north and south and many of our guests comment just that. Please see our VRBO/Homeaway listing photos and see image #2 for a map of the island and our property location and the proximity to the island's best attractions, bars, restaurants and of course beaches. Our cottage is also right in town so you can actually walk to everything you need. We are just a 2 - 5 minute walk to beaches, snorkeling, food stores, ice cream shops, bars and restaurants, etc. The 4 best ranked restaurants on the entire island are half a mile, three quarters of a mile, 3 miles and 8 miles from us respectively. We strongly advise renting a vehicle to explore the island, but it is nice to know from our location you can walk to anything you need which is very rare for a rental home on Eleuthera. COTTAGE DESCRIPTION; Coconut Cottage is a fully fenced, very private, super cute and affordable rental option that sleeps 4 people total. Specifically we can sleep 3 adults maximum, or 3 adults and a child, or 2 adults and 2 kids, but please note we cannot sleep 4 adults. There is a king bed and double futon sofa sleeper. The total size of the cottage is 650 square feet in an open concept design. It was totally renovated in 2021 by Cecil, the owner, who is one of the island's top builders. He specializes in making classic Bahamian cottages with a beachy vibe along with tongue and groove pine. You can see that in the interior photos we posted. There is a full kitchen for cooking complete meals with a gas stove/oven combo, full size fridge, microwave, coffee maker and toaster along with the normal kitchen gadgets. There is Wi-Fi and cable TV for your convenience. There is a dining table and two chairs both inside and outside. The attached en-suite bathroom is large with a walk in shower. The relaxing cottage has lovely garden views tucked among a grove of mature coconut palms that will let you unwind each day. There are flowering bushes and shrubs along with a charcoal grill, shower outside (inside shower also) and two beach chairs. There is even a Papaya tree right on the property grounds - see listing photo. Coconut Cottage is a little hidden gem at an affordable price. ELEUTHERA IS NOT FOR EVERYONE; If Miami Beach is your thing we respectfully suggest you pick a different destination. Eleuthera is a sleepy island with some flaws; bad roads, dated infrastructure, more frequent than back home power / water / internet outages, geckos sometimes will be in a home and painfully slow service at certain places. However, Eleutheran people are genuine, helpful and kind. The crime is very low unlike the rest of the Caribbean. It is unspoiled and gorgeous and mostly empty going back back 75 years in time. We know it well and have been there over 100 times and have many long-term Bahamian relationships. You will explore the most stunning beaches you have ever seen and have them usually all to yourself. We love the island so do our guests. He has a booking manager who takes care of the reserved process, and she provides a lengthy intro about the area, and the house. It was truly worth reading in its entirety. The beach might as well have been our own, nobody there but me. We loved the small local grocery store, and eating at the Front Porch restaurant. I advise joing the Eleuthera Forum facebook page to help you get to know the island better too. The cottage is exactly as described, and the provided cooler was great for pur excursions. We froze bottles of water for ice, made sandwiches, and went exploring. The deck on the hill is perfect for morning sunrises and yoga. ##### Kim L. Great place to stay before our longer stay in Spanish Wells. You definitely need a vehicle as Eleuthera is 110 miles long. Perfect amount of space. The property grounds are pretty and the deck up the hill is really cool (especially at night). The shower has hot water, and the AC works well. You might have some visitors during your stay. One night we came back to a frog resting on the showerhead! We thought it was cool though. The location is decent, but not many food options. We ended up eating in gregory town for the most part. Eleuthera is such a beautiful place. I plan on renting this property when we come back. ##### Amber M. If you drive from North Eleuthera Airport, you pass the glass island bridge and queen's baths on the way. Definitely worth stopping by! We had some nice snorkeling on the beach that you can walk to from the cottage. Saw some fish and even a lionfish! Its on the calmer side of the island, so it was a good spot to swim. Cottage was nice! Its small, but perfect for 2 people. Plus the yard is really pretty with the palm trees! Theres a TON of nice places to eat within walking distance. Note that you have to point the remote at the AC unit to turn it on- that tripped us up a bit. The owner, Cecil, is super nice and lives right next door if you have any questions. There was a copy of a guidebook about the beaches of eleuthera in the cottage, which was really helpful! And the wifi was actually really good, which I wasn't expecting! Air conditioning and wi-fi worked well. Easy parking and relatively quiet neighborhood. The property manager provides a thorough pamphlet with tips and suggestions for the cottage and surrounding area. We would definitely stay here again. Eleuthera has many beaches, but if you wish to visit them, be aware that many of the access roads are very rough and a high clearance vehicle is strongly recommended. ##### CLAD C. The “beach” is about a 3-5 minute walk but is right by a graveyard and Is rocky. Twin brothers and the front porch are both great restaurants BUT Da spot I wouldn’t suggest, trash everywhere and smells awful. The hot water in the cottage would only last 1-2 minutes, WiFi didn’t work and there were cockroaches in the cottage as well. You will have to rent a car if you want to go to beach, or do anything really. Roosters will start crowing at 4 am and will not stop. The listing was represented exactly as specified. It was the perfect little space for 2 of us. It was off season so everything on the island was a little dead and slow but we still enjoyed every second of our stay. The location is definitely outside of the usual tourist spots which is great if you're happy to mingle amongst the locals, but could be an inconvenience if you do not have a rental car. The cottage was well stocked with utensils and supplies. Even some bug spray which was nice! The bed was very comfortable which is usually my number one priority. The little deck in the back was the greatest relaxation spot. We laid out on the chaise lounges every night listening to music, listening to the waves and watching the stars. We only experienced minor inconveniences during our stay. The WiFi only worked for us on the first day, but I'm sure Cecil would have fixed ASAP had we informed him. But we were happy to disconnect and enjoy our vacation so we never let him know. I would definitely recommend this little place for the price. Especially if you want to mix in with the locals. My only other suggestion would be a board game or deck of cards for off-season nights when the island is slow :) ##### claire b.
