"Lovely room and surroundings."
the room and the resort were very pretty. the restaurant had good food, but extremely slow service. We arrived late but called the number on the door and the guard came and let us in immediately. The beds were harder than we are used to, but that seemed to be the case all across Portugal.

"You can't fault this unless...."
My wife and I spent 11 nights and had a very nice holiday. We had not been to Portugal before and chose the hotel because it offered a good standard of room, is in a great location and offers an all inclusive deal meaning that our default position was well covered. The hotel seems to appeal to a wide cross-section of holidaymakers. I'd estimate that 20% of the guests were golfers, who of course made good use of the free drinks in the evening, but were elsewhere during the day. It was also popular with couples with babies, bear in mind this was during school term time, so that's hardly surprising, and the remainder were largely retired people who seemed to have picked up extremely good bargains from the discussions I had. The rooms are faultless, well equipped and very spacious. The complex is very clean, well maintained, though maybe a bit characterless. The all inclusive food and drink was as advertised, no catches, good quality and available from dawn to midnight. If I were on a golfing holiday, I would have to say this place can not be beaten for the price, especially some of the deals I heard of from UK groups, absolutely ridiculously good value for money. The hotel has a courtesy bus to the beach, which is as good as any on the Algarve, so you don't have to stay in the hotel complex if you don't want to. Anyone who complains about this hotel was either very unlucky or very unreasonable. The restaurants are like works cafeteria, but what else do you expect?

"Great staff but hotel needs a little updating."
Most of the staff are very friendly at the hotel and this makes your stay just that little bit special. However, the hotel has a few areas to tidy up on to make it to 5 stars. Firstly, the hotel does look like it needs to be given a bit of a makeover to bring it up to date. The bedrooms and outside bar area look a little tired and need of a little overhaul. We had a very bad experience with one of the restaurant managers at the grill restaurant one evening. We were told that there was not enough room for our large group of 10 but there was a smaller table where we could feed our three young children and then when a table become available, we would be informed. Fair enough so we fed our children and half an hour later we saw two further tables of six empty next to us. So we asked if the rest of the group could be seated. The manageress then told us that another group were also waiting before us and then were seated at one of these tables. When we asked the group if they had indeed booked the table, we were told they had just turned up. The manageress then having realised she had been caught out tried to insist on seating my group. We had a very bad taste in our mouth at this point and said that we no longer wanted a table. After realising we were not going to budge, she proceeded to give us a bottle of sparkling wine as what I can only see as a bribe to not reporting her behaviour. To be fair, she was the exception to the otherwise genuinely friendly staff.

"Excellent family friendly hotel"
Really enjoyed our stay. The hotel facilities are excellent and the staff were amazing - they could not have been more helpful. In particular, the restaurant staff made our kids feel very welcome and clearly take pride in giving their guests a personal touch even when the restaurant was busy. Had seen some reviews suggesting that half board wasn't worthwhile but for us with two young kids, it made things much easier and we found the food to be of high quality and sufficiently varied across the week. The theme nights for dinner work really well. The marina is close enough to walk or take a taxi which suited us fine.

"Perfect location, nice staff, but hotel dated"
This is our 4th summer holiday at DFH. It's located very close to all VDL amenities, which is great. This year we did feel that the hotel could really do with completing the renovation work that began in 2014. The older rooms (most of them) look very old fashioned and sparse - not in keeping with 5 stars at all. The cleaning team do a great job but bathrooms in particular are showing their age and in parts mine was stained and not very pleasant. The shower was also very bad - going from hot to cold all the time. Air con in the rooms is really good. TV not good - minimal channels. And the wifi is appalling for a 5 star hotel - I gave up and used the 4g on my phone. This year for the first time we went to the hotel's beach rather than the pool area. The pool gets horribly noisy and overcrowded, and they no longer proactively offer drinks / food. The sun loungers and umbrellas look really old now. There is not enough shade. The beach is much nicer and the staff down there were lovely. Breakfast was great - and the team of staff running it also great. However we did not use the bar or hotel restaurant at all during our stay apart from breakfast. The ambience is all wrong and the menu has changed - there are more relaxed and less expensive options at the praca and elsewhere in VDL. The Primavera restaurant could be so much nicer in the evenings - it's a shame!! Overall, this is a nice hotel, but does not deserve 5 stars.

"Great resort on the beach"
We visited in early March and most restaurants were closed, so little choice and empty! The resort itself is very nice, feels exclusive, very clean and well looked after. Food in the restaurants is good. Golf is the big thing here and the 2 courses are fantastic but you need to book early as it gets busy. Shame the pool was closed, I guess March is just too early. You do need a car for this resort as it is well spread out and to go into the local towns is a few miles. Vilamoura Marina is worth visiting or go further afield about an hour to Lagos and Portimao. The Apartments are very good, we cooked breakfast each morning and there was a lounge and patio for relaxing. Overall a great resort, I guess would be really busy in the main season though.

"Excellent hotel but need a car to go to the beach "
We absolutely loved the hotel and facilities, deluxe rooms are huge and really comfortable. They just need to have a gym and more shade because it tends to be quite hot in summer. Waiters are fantastic and tend to all your needs with always a big smile. We will return for sure

"Lovely hotel, however"
Choose a room overlooking the swimming pool as the mountain view rooms have a motorway 50 metres away, with subsequent noise. Otherwise, excellent hotel and staff
