"A comfortable room, excellent food both at dinner and breakfast, and an interesting property with lots of history. The legend of Inez and Pedro gave it a unique twist, and the numerous pictures of them by many different artists were displayed throughout the hotel. We also walked through the gardens in the back. They are probably beautiful in the spring and summer, but being October there were just a few plants still in bloom. We enjoyed our stay very much!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Alfarelos?
While Alfarelos itself is a small, quiet village, the best area to stay for exploring the wider region is the nearby city of Coimbra, particularly in the Baixa (downtown) district or around the University Hill.

The Baixa district in Coimbra is the city's historic heart, situated along the Mondego River. It's a pedestrian-friendly area with narrow streets, traditional shops, and cafes. Notable landmarks include the Santa Cruz Monastery and the bustling Praça do Comércio. This area is great for couples who enjoy strolling through historic settings and having easy access to dining and local culture.

For those interested in history and academic heritage, staying near University Hill offers a great experience. This area is dominated by the historic University of Coimbra, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its grand buildings and stunning views over the city.
When is the best time to go to Alfarelos?
The best time to go to Alfarelos is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months when the weather is pleasant for exploring.

During spring, the countryside around Alfarelos is lush and green, with wildflowers in bloom. The temperatures are comfortably mild, typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities like walking or cycling along the Mondego River. It's a lovely time for couples who enjoy scenic landscapes and tranquil surroundings without the summer crowds.

Autumn also offers agreeable weather, with temperatures usually between 18°C and 28°C. The grape harvest season brings a gentle buzz to the region, and the changing colours of the vineyards provide a beautiful backdrop.
