W. E. B. Du Bois inspired Holley to return to the South after he read Du Bois's writings on the plight of Albany's blacks in The Souls of Black Folk. Holley relocated to Albany to start a school. With the help of a $2,600 gift from the Hazard family, Holley organized a board of trustees and purchased 50 acres (200,000 m2) of land for the campus, all within a year. The aim of the institution at the time was to provide elementary education and teacher training for the local Black population. It was turned over to the state of Georgia in 1917 as Georgia Normal and Agricultural College, a two-year agricultural and teacher-training institution. It was very clean, well decorated and felt very cozy, just like home. The owner was easy to reach. The unit is even better than the photos! It was spacious and felt like a house, not an apartment. Beds were comfortable and bedding was crisp and clean. My trip was to see my terminally ill mother. This unit was a welcoming reprieve after a day sitting @ hospice. Not having to deal with bugs or any issues with cleanliness or comfort was a relief. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe; it’s on the curve of a cul de sac, so no traffic. Private parking is @ the back of the unit (perfect) and it has a mostly enclosed private back patio. The space felt gigantic for myself & teenaged grandson. Should I visit again for a more pleasurable trip, I wouldn’t hesitate to rent this unit again. I highly recommend this property to anyone visiting the area! The property was nice and spacious; exactly like the pictures with comfortable beds and great water pressure. Only downfall was one of the bedrooms TVs did not work and I tried contacting the host with no response or success.
