Founded by the Spanish in 1542, Guadalajara is rich in culture and history. Home to numerous colonial buildings, museums, parks, theaters, and churches, the city is also the birthplace of mariachi music and tequila. Attractions include Mercado Libertad, said to be the largest indoor market in Latin America, and the resplendent Teatro Degollado, which opened in 1866.
