Local Area York is one of the best city break destinations in England. But don’t just take our word for it, York is constantly in the UK top 20 Cities to visit and in Lonely Planet’s 2014 Best list, Yorkshire was described as the best place in Europe and third best in the world to visit.
The city was founded by the Romans as Eboracum in 71 AD, with its ancient walls and Minster the city has been the north’s spiritual capital for 2000 years. Cornerhouse is ideally placed to sample this ancient City. Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot and with a short riverside walk to the City's castle, visitors to Corner House can enjoy hundreds of attractions, museums, historic buildings, tours, shops, restaurants and bars.
When visiting Corner house the whole of Yorkshire is on the doorstep with excellent transport links, including the 10 min interval Park and Ride bus stop on the main road at the end of the street. Visitors can easily get to the station, City centre or alternatively head out to the City's Designer Outlet, a must visit fashion and shopping destination, home to 120 designer brands all at up to 60% less.
Cornerhouse visitors who wish to explore the City's extensive cycle network can store their bikes in the secure bike shed or hire them a few minutes walk away.
Arriving at Cornerhouse could not be easier; by car there is no need to drive into the city centre situated as it is just off the A19, Fulford Road. The property has a parking permit for free on street parking for 1 car.
For those vistors who have travelled to York from further a field by train and wish to explore the Yorkshire Countryside or Coast, daily car hire is also available just adjacent to the Park and Ride bus stop and bookable in advance over the internet.
Cornerhouse is a 2 minute walk away from a Sainsbury's supermarket so shopping for those last minute items could not be easier, alternatively as well as all the City Centre restaurants there are three high quality delicatessens within a 5 minute walk of the house.
Rounding off the perfect location, for those looking to complete a days sightseeing with a drink in a traditional Pub then the Wellington Inn or the Fulford Arms are both again within a 5 minute walk from the Corner House.

An excellent place to stay and only a twenty minute walk from centre of York. The property was very clean and tidy and we would certainly recommend it.
Excellent home-from-home property. Very well equipped and comfortable. Really convenient for both University (we were there for a graduation) and for the city centre - we recommend using the riverside walk that takes you straight to Clifford’s Tower and Th Castle Museum.
We loved this property. It was a great place for a family and had a lovely selection of games and activities. The location was excellent, you could walk into the centre of York in 15 minutes. Very good local shops and cafes too. A really well kept house with everything we needed.
Was really pleased and very happy with our stay at the corner house. We were in York for a conference and found everything we needed. Clean, tidy and with excellent facilities within a 25 minutes walk to the centre. Communication with the host was quick, easy instructions and everything you need.
We stayed for a long weekend to catch up with our kids who are both students at university.
Nice little welcome pack of tea / coffee and biscuits were gratefully received for that all important cup of tea on arrival.
Great place to stay in a great location close to the city with a very well equipped and spacious kitchen in the basement area.
Three toilets meant that there were never any queues
There is even a selection of board games and DVD's to keep you entertained.
Lovely comfy beds in all the rooms and comfortable seating in the lounge, all made for a very enjoyable stay at the Cornerhouse.
We visited York for our son's graduation and made a weekend of it.
Very comfortable accommodation for six adults at Cornerhouse. Good sized living areas and bedrooms, so it never felt overcrowded. All the amenities that you're likely to need.
Great location - a really enjoyable walk along the river to the city centre (even in the July rain) or across the Millennium Bridge to Rowntree Park, which is well worth a visit. It's also a very nice walk up to the campus through Low Moor Allotments and Walmgate Stray.
The check-in process was totally fuss-free and Jo is a great host.
Highly recommended.
This is our 4th visit with Jo.Great place to stay. Home from home. Good quality! Jo is a fabulous host & includes hidden extras. Easy reach to York centre. Plenty of places to visit, eat & drink. We will definitely be back again! Thank you Jo!
The house was perfect!
Well equipped, cosy and spotlessly clean.
Spacious rooms and very close to town.
Will highly recommend to friends and hope to be back soon!
A great townhouse with plenty of space. The dining kitchen has all you need, three good size bedrooms in a quiet location and only 10-15 mins walk to the town centre.
We we're 6 adults (3 couples) and were very comfortable here.
Great kitchen for catching up with family or friends.
York is a brilliant city to visit, great pubs, cafes, restaurants (recommend Yemen Heaven), gigs, history and architecture. Can't go wrong here and Corner House is great base for the adventure.
We found the The Cornerhouse to be comfortable and well-equipped, as described. It is a pleasure to stay in accommodation that is properly overseen and well-managed by attentive owners.
The out-building was very useful for storing our pushchair and we particularly appreciated the well:equipped kitchen, the quality beds and the comfortable sitting room furniture.
An excellent base for a trip to York.
This was our second stay at The Corner House. Jo is very responsive in communicating. The house was immaculate, very comfortable and well stocked. Just a short walk along the river to the town center or even shorter walk to the bus stop. Would not hesitate to stay again.

Beautiful and immaculate property in a great location with extremely comfortable beds
Jo could not have been more helpful before and during our stay at the Cornerhouse. The property was in an extremely central location, just a short walk along the river to the City Centre. The property is exceptionally clean, tidy and warm with comfortable beds throughout. I would have no hesitation making another booking.
We enjoyed our week in August staying at the corner house. Perfect for exploring York with an enjoyable riverside walk to town. The house was spacious clean and welcoming and well fitted out with modern appliances in a pleasant quiet neighbourhood.
Thank you Jo!

Lovely stay in York.
It was a catch up weekend with friends from University. The rooms were all a great size, all clean and tidy with anything you could think of in place; WiFi, coffee maker, dishwasher..... for added luxury. It allowed us to catch up chatting in the kitchen or living room.
Simply a walk down the street and a walk into town along the river so close to all tourist attractions. Thanks again for the lovely stay.

Lovely accommodations with great location
Jo was a pleasure to deal with and very responsive to any questions. Corner House had everything we needed for our two week stay. The accommodations were lovely, immaculate and very comfortable. You couldn't ask for a better location, which was important since we didn't have a car. Only a short stroll along the river to the town center, or a block to the bus stop to travel farther afield. If we return to York we'll definitely be returning to Corner House.

A lovely, tasteful home from home
Our family spent a few days in this lovely house, which is perfectly situated for anyone wishing to explore the centre of York. It was spotlessly clean, quiet and tastefully presented, right down to the tea/coffee set and welcoming package of shortbread. The house has been refurbished to a high standard - particularly evident in the sleek kitchen and bathrooms. Our teenage son particularly enjoyed the Smart TV in his bedroom! We had a wonderful time and would happily stay again.
Great location and very well equipped. Parking was a problem and I had not realized the kitchen was in the basement. I may have missed that information but it came as a surprise and could have been a problem. Everything else was good
Four adults of my family stayed here over Christmas while visiting my daughter and it certainly did not disappoint. There were thoughtful touches all around the house, from the Christmas decorations in the lounge and kitchen and the tea/coffee (inlcuding a really good supply of Nespresso pods!), fresh milk and Betty's cookies waiting for us when we arrived to the supplies of dishwasher/ washing machine tablets and ample toilet rolls! There were plenty towels and tea towels. Everything seemed to be aimed at ensuring a comfortable and stress free stay. The beds were very comfortable, and the en-suite, although small, had a really good sized shower. There was a good supply of games/puzzles/ books for all ages along with a good internet connection and a really nice TV in the lounge with Netflix. Parking was really easy in the quiet street outside and there was no trouble parking for guests either. When my older daughter and her Dad with his family visited on boxing day we even discovered the kitchen table extended to seat everyone for a board game. We wandered into the centre of York on boxing day - an easy 20 minute walk and we were in the Shambles. Overall a really lovely stay - A big thank you to the owners for their care and attention to detail with this property.
Excellent. Two adults plus one adult son. One bedroom each. Extremely comfortable, extremely clean, very quiet and great sound insulation. Staircases are quite steep so I wouldn't recommend if you don't want to get a little bit of a workout. Wouldn't recommend for someone with a mobility issue. Kitchen in the basement was cooler than the rest of the house in the hot weather which was fantastic however there aren't any windows in the kitchen which made it feel less connected to the rest of the house or outside but that wasn't really a problem. Only my husband was able to open the window in the sitting room as it was quite difficult and heavy so I can imagine unless you were fairly strong that you wouldn't be able to open a window in the sitting room and that would make it hot but there was a fan so that helped a lot. It was marvelous to have a whole separate space for one or more of us to go and spend time in if the other people wanted to do something different in the living room eg watch different TV shows. The fans were absolutely marvelous in the bedrooms. We had temperatures of around 30 when we were first there. We had a brilliant time walking into York on numerous occasions we also went to the dreamery, we went to the railway museum, we went to yorvic, we went to the castle museum and we went to the beach at bridlington and had a fantastic very chilled time. Thanks so much! We would consider ourselves very lucky to stay here again.

What a perfect place for exploring York
I graduated from U of York over 3 decades ago, and just spent a nostalgic 5 days visiting the area with the Cornerhouse as the base. It was perfectly located for exploring without a car: a pleasant mile walk from the university and a mile walk along the river from the center of York. A Number 7 bus picks and and drops off every 10 minutes or so, just 600 feet from the house for those days when we decided even a mile was too far!
The house felt like home immediately--absolutely spotlessly clean, and furnished with just the right balance of not-too-cluttered and not-too-spare. The kitchen (which is in the basement) is spectacular and well-equipped. Absolutely loved having a Nespresso maker and milk frother! The TV system is complicated but full-featured. And there's even a Google Home Assistant!
There are a LOT of stairs since the house has 4 floors...a flight down to the kitchen from the living room, a long flight up to the next floor (one bedroom ensuite, and a separate bathroom) and a narrow steep flight up to the top floor (two bedrooms). My 83 year old mother got more exercise than she is used to :)
Jo was a delight to communicate with, from start to finish.
All-in-all, the perfect stay. When I'm back for another nostalgia tour, I'll seek out Cornerhouse.
