The best area to stay in Yanama is the village centre, particularly around the Plaza de Armas. This is the main hub of the village and offers the most convenient access to amenities. The Plaza de Armas is a central square, typical of Peruvian towns, where you'll find the local church, municipal buildings, and a few small shops and eateries. The surrounding streets are narrow and give you a real sense of local life. Most guesthouses and basic hotels are concentrated in this area. For adventurers and trekkers, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. It's the primary departure point for many local guides and transport services heading to trailheads for treks into the Huascarán National Park, such as the popular Santa Cruz trek. You'll find it easy to arrange logistics, meet up with your group, and access any last-minute supplies you might need.Couples looking for a peaceful mountain retreat will also appreciate the village centre. It offers a relaxed pace, stunning views of the surrounding Andes, and a chance to experience authentic local culture away from larger tourist centres.

The best time to visit Yanama is during the dry season, which runs from May to September.During these months, you'll experience clear skies and warm, sunny days, making it ideal for exploring the natural beauty of the region. This period is superb for hiking and trekking in the surrounding mountains, including the Huascarán National Park. The trails are typically well-maintained and less muddy, offering better conditions for walking and photography. For those planning extended treks or climbing expeditions, particularly to higher altitudes, the dry season is essential. The stable weather reduces the risk of sudden storms and provides the best visibility for enjoying the impressive mountain views.
