Top Weenen Hotel Reviews

Esiweni Luxury Safari Lodge

Esiweni Luxury Safari Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"Wow. Just wow. My wife and I spent three nights at Esiweni and it exceeded every expectation we had. I had been on safari once before, and it honestly paled in comparison to this experience. The lodge itself is stunning. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Sundays River, it’s one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever stayed. Nambiti Private Game Reserve is the perfect size. It feels wild and untouched. but it’s not so massive that you’re driving for hours without seeing anything. We saw elephants, lions, cheetahs, buffalo, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, and so much more. Every game drive felt different. What made this trip so special were the people. Pemba was our ranger for our twice daily game drives and was the highlight of our stay. He is knowledgeable, kind, funny, and simply a joy to spend time with. By the end of three days, it felt like we were out with family rather than a guide. Sophie and Vic, the owners, welcomed us like old friends. You can tell they love what they do, and that warmth carries through the entire lodge. Myriam was always attentive and pleasant, and Chef Nandi created unforgettable meals. The menu leans French, every dish was fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. They also surprised us with a few thoughtful touches that made the trip even more memorable. We left talking about when we could come back. If you’re considering a safari, I can’t recommend Esiweni enough. Luxury without feeling pretentious. We will absolutely be back. Thank you all!."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Weenen?
The best area to stay in Weenen is within the Weenen Game Reserve or just outside its boundaries for convenient access to wildlife viewing. The Weenen Game Reserve itself is the primary attraction, offering a natural and undisturbed setting. Accommodation here typically consists of self-catering lodges or camps, providing direct access to the reserve's walking trails and game drives. You'll find yourself surrounded by the natural landscape, with opportunities to spot various antelope, zebra, and other wildlife right from your doorstep.Couples looking for a tranquil and immersive nature experience will find staying within the reserve particularly appealing. It's an excellent choice for those who appreciate early morning game drives and evenings spent under the stars, away from any urban distractions. The focus here is entirely on the natural environment and the wildlife it supports. For families, staying in a lodge or guesthouse just outside the reserve's main entrance can offer a good balance. These options often provide more amenities, such as swimming pools or larger family rooms, while still being a very short drive from the reserve's gates.
When is the best time to go to Weenen?
The best time to visit Weenen is during the dry winter months, from May to September.During this period, the weather is generally mild and sunny, with cooler temperatures and less humidity than the summer. This makes it ideal for outdoor activities, especially game viewing in the Weenen Game Reserve, as the vegetation is sparser, and animals tend to congregate around water sources, making them easier to spot. Birdwatching is also excellent during these months. For those interested in wildlife, particularly families and couples, the dry season offers the most rewarding safari experience. The clear skies and comfortable temperatures are great for early morning game drives or guided walks.
