This is a very nice lodge with a great history. The room was spacious and we really enjoyed the hot tub and the nature trail. My only complaint is with the people in the room beneath us as we heard them talking well past the quiet hour of 10:00 pm. As the inn has no night manager, I was required to deal with it myself by talking to them directly. Not sure if the insulation between the rooms is adequate. We stayed in the "HOKULANI" room. It had a beautiful balcony where we could watch the birds perched in the ‘Ohi‘a Lehua trees and listen to them sing. Warming up by the fireplace in the room allowed us to truly relax. The Hawaiian quilt on the bed was stunning, and we loved the warm, woody feel of the entire room. Every meal we ordered at the restaurant was delicious. Although we are not very confident in our English, the staff were all so kind and helpful, which we deeply appreciated. We stayed for just one night as part of our honeymoon, but next time, we definitely want to stay much longer. The access to the Volcano was also perfect. Our stay at the Lodge was perfect! From the beautiful room - we stayed in Ohia, to the hot tub, to the delicous food at breakfast and the restaurant. The Lodge was clean, close to the national park and in a beautiful setting. Lovely property - charming rooms. You do hear noise from adjacent rooms. Rooms with gas fireplace are cozy. The atmosphere has changed. Previous owners retired before COVID hit, and the new owners made changes that take away from how special this place once was. The most obvious change is in the food. Breakfast is now served in a small basement room. No staff was seen. Supposedly a hot item was to be served daily but unless creamed rice is what they considered to be it, there was nothing. Scant continental fare. Disappointing on every level and on pare with a budget chain hotel offering. Even the dinner in the restaurant was sub par. It used to be really nice, special even Now it's ordinary to downright bad. My pasta was so greasy I was able to pour butter and grease out of it into my bread plate (no bread is served). My waitress noticed how bad it was and took it off the bill but that should never have happened. This place used to be a gem.
